Ok guys ya know I don't know much but does this kinda raise some eyebrows why not put the fuse and switch on the primary side

But idk so that's why I'm asking  :grr

That box in the lower left hand corner connected to the blue and white wires is the power button it's a tuner btw

Amplifier Discussion / amprx Brown Box

My friend asked me if I or anyone have any experience with this device?

My concern is that while it might "change" the incoming AC voltage, I am wondering if it can handle a high current peak.  It is rated for 540W @ 120V AC, 5 amp. So it seems like its ok for lower power amps.

I guess anyone can use a Variac and Voltmeter to achieve the same results.  So this looks like a convenience item.

I guess the other thing is that do you really hear a difference if you reduce the voltage on an amp?

Any thoughts?

Holy cow I found a Helstar Remnants of War CD and popped it in.  Of course during the title track I was loving the epic scream  :dbtu:
But then after that came Conquest OMG  :dbtu:  :tu:  :dbtu:  :tu:  :trouble  8) I had it SERIOUSLY CRANKED  :dbtu:  8)

Yes sir thanks

After forty something years I finally broke down and got a CD player  xP I love my cassettes but I was plumb wore out with the whole slide switch issue  :grr  :grr
It would start acting up every few tapes and I would have to get a tape that could be recorded and hit the play+record switch a few times  >:(

So I went to my friend's junk store and dug this one out.  At first it was like Thing on the Adams family when I hit "door open" it would open and shut rapidly  :grr but I learned to just repeat and sometimes it stays open.
When I saw the orange LED or whatever it was love at first sight  <3)
I think it's supposed to have a remote but it's long gone.

Ive played three CDs from beginning to end and it's behaving so I'm pleased.
I had tried to make the move to CDs in the 80s and wasn't overwhelmed  :loco
But I like this much better  :tu:  :dbtu:

Amplifier Discussion / Marshall Mg10 analysis
Last post by Stinger - December 19, 2025, 08:54:21 AM
Hello all, first poet. I'm interested in designing and building a solid state guitar amplifier (planning to use the LM3886 for my first build) and in researching power amps I came across this schematic. I noticed the speaker path seems to be pure current feedback rather then mixed, with the voltage feedback on a completelyseparate path. I'm wondering if the inverted topology is what allows for stability here, or whether inverted has any potential advantage for building  a current driven amp with a low damping factor. Note that this website isn't always the best, and they really do a poor job explaining the power amp section here, but the schematic is legit as far as I can tell, and other mg amps use the same inverted power amp and current feedback setup. https://www.electrosmash.com/marshall-mg10

DISCLAIMER: I am well aware that current feedback and low damping are just one of many, many ingredients behind classic tube tone and do not expect that alone to make silicon act like glass.

All you need now is a Marshall full speaker cab stack to plug into it and a great little preamp pedal and blow the doors off your whole neighborhood.

Well I learned my lesson.  Next time as was advised  :'( just replace the complete fuse holder.
I found a fuse holder with a screw in cap that fit but the euphoria was short lived as the resultant longitudinal cavity was a bit long ie the 3ag fuse had end play resulting in an intermittent power on and off.

So I grabbed some maybe 12 gauge solid core and snipped off a small piece to improvise a shim.

Yeah I know just replace the entire unit already  xP  :tu:

I'm happy to have this amp going I put it in place of the little MCS amp which I liked but this one slays it  :dbtu:

I actually heard some stuff on ryme of the ancient mariner that I didnt hear with the MCS

Looks like time for another "after further review"

I've been advised to use electron flow current and I am gladly heeding this suggestion  :tu:

Quote from: saturated on December 13, 2025, 03:31:44 PMthe cathode allowing negative voltage to pass  :tu:  :lmao:  :grr but that makes perfect sense and explains some things

NO.   :trouble  ::)

Negative voltage does not "pass through the cathode to the anode"  ::)

Current flows from the anode to cathode because the anode is not positive but it's still more positive (or less negative) than the cathode
