A needle in a haystack

One of my laboratory exercises required a 22k ohm resistor  :grr

Up until now I haven't really been a fan of the color code system but I think I really like it now.

Because honestly it stuck out like a sore thumb

So yeah now I think it's a cool system but I have a much better time of looking to see what colors I need and then looking for that rather than trying to decipher faded colors trying to figure out what they are  :grr

And then the four color to me is kind of a can of worms  :loco

As with everything, practice makes perfect.

On na boring Sunday afternoon you can spend some time reading *all* those resistors and then confirming (or not  :(  ) with a meter.

Even better, get a plastic box with 10 or 12 divisions, and group them by value, say 1-10 ohm, 10 to 100 and so on.
Not "one division per value" but next time you need one, you check the matching sub division and you know at least you are in the ballpark.

Also: at a glance you know you do NOT have certain value, instead of each time wasting 30 minute going through all of them again and again.

I keep my 1/4watt resistors in little plastic packets, one value in each packet.
To be fair I always order them from Tayda in lots of 50 when I run low on a value, Tayda sends them out in individual plastic packets.
I should organize better boxes for them but these came from the hardware store, they used to contain bulk paintbrushes I think before they stuck the paintbrushes up on the display stands.

I think it's getting close to the time when Suturated needs to start ordering components in bulk, once the first guitar pedal is built that will be the end of single components.

I started by only buying the resistors I was missing for the next project, but I bought 25 at a time from the start, I quickly stepped up to 50 resistors at a time of each value.
I now have all the values that Tayda have in the metal 1/4" resistors, and smaller boxes of 1/2w and 1 watt resistors.

Saturated, Find a simple pedal kit you can buy and build it and fairly soon you will have lots of them to play with.

Here are my 1/4" metal resistors:

Yes sir thanks wow those boxes are really nice

But now I'm scared one of my heroes is going base jumping  :'(

Resistors are cheap and postage is expensive, plus the delay, so it pays ordering 50-100 of anything.
Also 10-20 each of very much used parts such as 100pf 220pf 470pf .... .047 .1 ceramics which are cheap and "good enopugh", a few small electrolytics such as .47  1  4.7  10  100uF , a few jacks plugs switches Leds a couple pots

You will eventually use them.

I am not going base jumping, it took me a while to work out where you got that from.
I was measuring the weight of my 30 year old paraglider rig, I stopped flying paragliders 30 years ago.
I decided to start my bucket list early and have booked in for paragliding lessons in November for my 65th birthday, I am starting the lessons from scratch even though I could make some short cuts because of past experience.
My bone disease will make it too hard to do anything like this if I wait much longer, I am hoping to get up to 10 years of flying still. Training is a lot harder then flying is later, glide down practice hills and then walk back up over and over on a 600ft hill can be hard as you walk about a mile each time.

D.I.S.H. is a crap bone disease to live with but it is not fatal just degenerative, soft connective tissue can turn to bone. Bone spurs shoot up, vertebrates tries to fuse together and they grow sharp spurs that can be damaging if you twist a lot. Even lung tissue have been seen to turn to bone and I know of one case where there were some bone forming in heart tissue as well.

Yes sir I wish you the best  :tu:

Yesterday I briefly looked at some pics of Tasmania and was in awe of the beautiful scenery lots of majestic precipices  :dbtu:
Truly breathtaking wow  :tu:
Lots of surfing 🌊 going on there too  :tu:

I had told you about my friend suffering from his third major back operation (laminectomy plus other stuff )

He only moments ago sent me this text

" just got back from doc , knew something weren't right , 2 of the few remaining good vertebra I left literally broke in half , now have to do another surgery , he's gonna put screws in em all the way to my neck 😡😅😅😅😅😅. Not a happy camper it's kicking my ass what you gonna do "

Those pics are pretty scary my uncle had a bunch of work done he was like 80 his pics looked like a stack of discs crumbling on one side  :-X but he is still kicking does tractor work and stuff

Anyhow nice to hear from you good luck and good on you doing what you enjoy we're not getting any younger I turn 62 next week  :grr  :lmao:

Yeah I did feel for your friend when you told me about him, hope all the surgeries goes as well as they can.I always hated having screws and plates attached to my bones, but they were from riding motorcycles since I was 10 years old, good times, all the scars are trophies from the fun I had.

The biggest danger from my disease is getting a heart attack from the severe pain that is there all the time, it is very easy to stop doing stuff because everything causes pain so you become unfit from lack of moving. Well there is always the risk of eating a bullet when you can no longer put up with the pain all the time, but I will never do anything like that.
I can play a tune with my titanium knees when I sit down so that's a positive, I got arthritis in nearly every joint as well, the fun never stops as you get older.  :lmao:
