Den.

I'm cleaning up an amp of mine and what appears to be white lithium grease was used between the two heatsinks and the back panel during the factory assembly.  I'd like to know exactly what kind of grease this is in case I need to renew it before reassembly of the chassis.

SIlicone heat sink grease.  Specifially made for this purpose, it helps thermal conductivity between transistor and heatsink.  ANy general electronics supplier will have it.  Radio Shack used to, but I don't know if they still have it.

Silicone heatsink grease
Silicone heatsink compound
Silicone thermal compound
Silicone heat transfer compound

etc etc etc

Here is a selection of the stuff:

I don't think Radio Shack has it anymore, at least not my local one.  I got my last tube from mouser.com when I placed an order.  The stuff lasts forever.

Thanks.  Den.

And you don't have to renew it; looks like there is gobs of it there. Just be careful not to wipe it off.
