Amplifier Discussion / Re: My "Scarface" Ruby
« on: April 06, 2009, 11:53:49 AM »
Nice work!
I have built 5-6 Ruby/Little Gem's and always found the covering the box was the hardest part.

Sergscar: excellent work. Can you provide some more details about the textured black covering paint you used? Thanks.
PS: parabéns Sérgio pelo seu ótimo trabalho.

I used Dupli-Color spayable bedliner from the auo-parts store on the last 3.  It works out really nice and it's a lot easier than vinyl or tolex.  It's about $8 for the can but it did 3 smaller size cabinets.

Amplifier Discussion / Re: Where to get CHEAP guitar speakers??

I've seen the Jensens before.  I actually put a 12" MOD in the tube amp that I built.  I was just wondering if there was some where to get cheap off brand speakers.  $20 isn't to bad if I have buy new.

Amplifier Discussion / Where to get CHEAP guitar speakers??

I'm learning about SS amps and have a TDA2030 power amp funtional and waiting for a preamp.  When it is ready a want to build a little combo amp.  I've built and given away several 386 amps. Everyone likes them but they want them to be louder. I want to be able to give my friends something a little more powerful that doesn't cost me a bunch of money.  So my question is where to get affordable but functional 6"-8" guitar speakers for little practice amps?

This helped me out a lot when I was trying to figure out the basics of gain stages and filters.  You should be able to make a simple IC gain stage to use after the Pr. Tweed and before the power amp after you read the article.  It will probably take a little trial and error to get it how you want.

Amplifier Discussion / Re: LM1875 vs. TDA2050

Is a 2 amp 25v CT transformer enough getty-up for the LM1875?

I got a couple of 12.5v-0-12.5v transformers from parts express because they were on sale and planned on using them in a TDA20xx amp.  Is the LM1875 a better or louder chip than the TDA2050?  With a 1x12 cabinet would either be acceptable to practice with a drummer?

I plan on making a small combo style amp for practice.  I think that I'll try it both ways and see what I like.

I etched and populated a board from the layout but haven't put power to it yet.  I'll get to it sometime this week.  I have a some TDA2030's and TDA2050's I'm going to use for poweramps.  I'll report back when it's up and running.  Is there any harm in leaving off the speaker sim/line out board and just use the preamp out or is that part of the mojo?

Has anyone tried the DRP-1 from the earlier post??  Is it a verified layout?

How about the original?  Do they sound good.

It would be even better if the all of the channels were footswitchable.

Amplifier Discussion / Where to place reverb??
« on: February 15, 2008, 02:13:58 PM »
I am going to build a Stage Center reverb from and incorporate it into my next build.  Any suggestions on where in the signal path it should be for the best performance?

2) No comment.

Is there an issue with NTE that we should be aware of.  After reading this post I checked at Mouser and it says "99 week factory lead time" for the TDA2050.  They do however have the NTE replacement for 3x the price.

Other than cost should we be worried?  2 years seems like a long time to wait for components.

I found this link over at DIY Stompboxes.  I agree that a stand alone unit would be more versitile than trying to put it in a little amp.  That way you could use your reverb on whatever you wanted.

It all depends on the circuits' requirements.  You'll need a schematic or a Crate part number to find the right transformer.  You might be able to see if there is a number on the transformer and find out it's ratings.
