hi i fixed a fender princeton for a friend and it had cold solder on the 2 capacitors located on the pc board that are part of the power supply.(the 2 largest capacitors).i believe this is a common problem with this model amp.if you get excessive hum, pops ect. look at the solder joints with a magnifying glass or loupe.reheat the solder joints and bingo you should be up and running.i relaced both caps with new ones on the amp i worked on, but i believe they were still good. let me know how you make out hope this helps....ed!!!

thanks  ENZO  for the heads up on reset and you get the credit for me fixing this amp.the ic in position u4 was bad. the schematic i had said u4 was a tl-074 ic but it was a tl-072. i replaced it with a jrc-4558d ic which has the same pin configuration(i didn't have any tl-072 laying around)and bingo it is running.i ran a signal tracer in the input and checked for signal on pin 7 and had no signal passsing.i then checked the voltage on pin 7 and had no voltage.so i figured the chip was bad as i believe pin 7 is an output pin.thanks again ENZO!!!

hope the capitals on your name are o.k.i did my first post in capitals by mistake! this time only your name is in capitals as i thought it was important that the wisdom made know to me was by my friend and the friend of many other posts i read.....thanks.....ENZO.....ed!!!!!

FIXED AN AMP JUST LIKE THIS. IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM.THE RESISTOR NEXT TO THE COIL YOU TALKED ABOUT BURNED OUT.THERE IS A REASON FOR THIS. IF YOU JUST REPLACE THE RESISTOR IT WILL BURN OUT AGAIN. CHECK FOR COLD SOLDER ON THE COIL. IF THE COIL DOESN'T TAKE SOME OF THE JUICE DUE TO COLD SOLDER JOINTS GUESS WHAT HAPPENS. THE RESISTOR GETS ZAPPED WITH IT ALL AND GETS BURNT FAST.......ED!!!

HI! EDWARDEFFECT1 HERE AGAIN.THE AMP HAS A 7411 IC WITH 14 PINS AND A 8 PIN IC WHICH I BELIEVE IS PART OF THE PREAMP.I CAN'T GIVE ANYMORE INFORMATION THAN THIS AS I DON'T HAVE A SCHEMATIC. THE 8 PIN CHIP HAS A DIFFERENT PIN CONFIGURATION THAN THE MC1458P CHIP THAT IS IN IT. THE V+ SHOULD BE ON PIN #8 WHICH THE MC1458P DOES NOT HAVE.NOT SURE IF THE 14 PIN CHIP IS RIGHT EITHER BUT AT LEAST IT PASSES SIGNAL.THANKS ANY HELP APPRECIATED.I THINK WE NEED SOMEONE WITH A SCHEMATIC....HELP!!!THANKS!!! ED!!
