Sorry for the delay, I've had some other projects taking my free time. But, I found that one of the two cables for the foot switch was broken/not working, so the cable is ONE issue I have found. I believe the switch to be fine. Still not located the source of the cold startup problem. When I get past the new year, I should have some time. I will post some pics and data as I dig into it.

Hey guys/gals, I moved this over to the main amp forum after doing a few hours of testing on the Amp. At this time, I'm thinking I have a problem with the DSP foot switch cable or the switch itself, and a temperature issue with some component on the board. Going to warm it up and start shooting some freeze spray on it to locate the issue if possible.

Wish me luck!  :dbtu:

Sounds like a great way to get started. I will pick some up and give it a shot.

If anyone else has some thoughts, feel free to send them my way.

again, much appreciated!

Looking for any advice on where to start.

Problems when got it according to previous owner: DSP switch doesn't work (said light burnt out?), and pops and cracks when turned on.

Plugged power cord in, hit the switch with nothing plugged in, and yup, it pops and cracks, and the tuner led set flashes on and off as it pops and cracks. After a minute or so, the sounds go away and the amp seemed OK. Plugged in guitar, and worked ok. Without foot switch, the DSP worked great, all the channels worked, and seemed to be fine. Shut down, restarted, while still hot, and no issue. Plugged in the foot switch, and the buttons 1 and 2 switch between the channels as they should. But button 3 was not lighting up, nor was the DSP in the DSP 2 channel. (So not sure if it's amp or switch, yet.) Let amp cool down, and the popping and cracking goes on, with no guitar sound, for about 30 seconds give or take a few at every cold startup.

I pulled the electronics out, and pulled the main board. Looked at all the solder joints and all the components. Two joints on one Cap looked a little iffy, so I soldered it to make sure it was good. Basically it all looked good as new.

What do you guys think is causing the startup issue and the DSP issue?

thanks,

Joe

Hi all! I'm new here, and looking for some help. I recently did some work on my son's Fender Deluxe 85 red knob. (Those pesky 9 pin box jacks just don't last very long...) But chatting with my brother-in-law about this repair, he went on to explain he had a Crate amp that he purchased from Musician's Friend as a "Demo" model, and then he rambled on about plugging the pedal cables into the wrong jacks, then it not working, and something about a local amp repair shop that went out of business, and he had to go get this from them, and they said it was working ok, and he was tired of messing with it, did I want it..? Um, how much? Free! YES!

So I get it home, plug in my DC127 and viola, it seems to work. Then I start playing with it, and notice some little things, like the tuner lights are ALL ON. Then if I simply power it on and listen, it seems to Pop and Crack as the tuner lights flicker on and off? I've not plugged the foot switch in yet, but he noted the lights were not working on the switch?

I'm thinking about taking the switch apart and see that it's OK/fix it first, then go one step at a time on the amp.
Starting with the tuner.

So my questions:

1. Are there any normal issues with these I need to know about/fix?

2. Would I be able to get wiring diagrams/schematics for the amp and foot switch?

Thanks,

Joe
