Amplifier Discussion / Bass amp behaving strange. Please Help
« on: April 23, 2013, 06:19:15 PM »
I recently bought a second hand bass amp, and today it started to crackle and distort the sound (in a bad way), for some instants it might not give any sound at all. I've tried with another instrument, and different cables, and the plug seems fine. The problem comes and goes.

Do you have any guesses?
Could a fault in the power supply lead to an instability like this one?

Oh, another thing, that I thought was normal (might still be) this amp gives a loud pop everytime I turn it on... is this normal?
Its a 15W Crate bass practice amp.

Thanks in advance! :)

Amplifier Discussion / Fender G-DEC not working, Help!!!
« on: December 10, 2012, 04:57:37 PM »
I never really liked these kind of amp with too much electronics inside, normally SS amps are bulletproof, but these one seem very fragile :(
I got my hand in one of these G-DEC amps, but it's non operational... sometimes, if I kick it, it will come back to live tough! :P

Do you have any ideia of what this could be?

Amplifier Discussion / Can anyone identify this Amp?
« on: November 14, 2012, 10:55:39 AM »

Found this on a 2nd hand shop, I have no idea what brand it is or if it is any good. I've searched online but didn't find anything :P

What I know:
- Labeled "Export" and "G 150" (there's a label missing on the bottom of the front grill
- It has reverb
- It has a Fane 100W guitar speaker

Does anyone know this amp?  :)

The Newcomer's Forum / Help me add a footswitch to my 12W Orange combo
« on: November 28, 2011, 09:20:17 AM »

My small practice amp is an orange crush 12w (CR12L), and although I like it's sound, it lacks a footswitch, or even an overdrive on/off button.
So started thinking about a way to add a footswitch to it.

This amp only has one channel, so the pedal would have to do 2 things:
- Enable the overdrive (clipping stage)
- Lower the master volume a bit (to avoid that when the overdrive is on, the volume getting much louder as well)

The footswitch would activate a relay, and the relay would then connect or disconnect the bits on the circuit.

Any ideas on how I could accomplish this?
If anyone has a schematic for this amp it would help a lot as I cant seem to find it anywhere (I guess the CR10 will be the same).

Thanks :)

Amplifier Discussion / How to add line-in to a guitar amp?
« on: December 11, 2010, 02:20:20 PM »
I'm thinking about buying an small 12W amp, (orange crush). The thing is that, unlike it's bigger 20W brother, this one does not have a line-in jack (aux input).
Do you have an idea of how hard is it to add one?
I'm guessing it's just a jack and a couple of resistors in the right place...  ;)

Any help will be appreciated  :D

The Newcomer's Forum / Know any simple amp with TDA2003 and drive control?
« on: December 03, 2010, 06:41:20 AM »
I've found lots of LM386 simple amps, and almost all of them have some sort of gain or drive potenciometer.
But these amps have a rather small output, so I was looking for the TDA2003, that has a higher output and still can be run with 12v.
Problem is that all the TDA2003 designs I've found have no drive control...
Do you know any schematic for one?

Regards! :)

Amplifier Discussion / Bridged LM386 with 3.2 Ohm 5W speaker?
« on: November 30, 2010, 06:45:49 AM »
I'm building a Little Gem MK2 (bridged 386), using 2 LM386-4 chips, and about 15 volt supply. (15v when running on an AC adapter, 12v when on batteries).
I'm planning on using a small heat sink for the 386 chips.
Everywhere I read it states a 4+ ohm speaker, but the one I have is a 5W 3.2ohm unit from a sony portable cd player.

What will happen? Burning amp, burning speaker, bad sound?
Thanks for your help :)
