Amplifier Discussion / Troubleshooting a power section.
September 26, 2009, 10:26:49 PM
My friend owns an Hughes & Kettner Warp 7 combo. Recently, the power stage is starting to make weird "ring modulated" and other static type of noises, not right away, but after about 5 minutes or so of being used. The local repair guy "fixed" it once for this, but it started making these same noises a month later. Now he won't touch it with a 500' pole. I also cannot find any schematics for this amp anywhere. Any help on this subject would be awesome!!

I am at a loss. What is the deal with Zoom? All the other processors' output are rated at dBu. Zoom's: DBm. What is the difference? I tried to research the relationship on Wiki and I found it really difficult to understand. I did get this though:

I just don't understand, what does it mean?....Why am I asking this question? what does this have to do with MFX? Simple. DBm doesn't interact with a power amp properly. The experiment I did was to plug both sides of a a QSC into stereo sides of a 4-12. So here is how I did it:

guitar 1=>G7.1ut=>BBE 482 ch. 1=>QSC left side=>left side of a Carvin cab
guitar 2=>RP350=>BBE 482 Ch. 2=>QSC Right side=>right side same cab

I played through the Zoom, my buddy played though the RP350. I was peaking out the BBE and the tone was really bad, plus the output was pretty low. My buddy playing though the RP350 however WAS NOT peaking the BBE, and he was VERY LOUD and clear. So does the Zoom's DBm leveled outputs have the wrong impedance or is something else going on?

Amplifier Discussion / What happened to Crate?
January 14, 2009, 10:16:01 PM
Love 'em or hate 'em, Crate is one probably one of the most  controversial names in amplification. I have heard rumors that SLM is planning on discontinuing the brand, and I've also read that Raven amps are really the new Crate. What is really going on? Does anyone know?

Amplifier Discussion / Peavey Vyper
January 09, 2009, 08:03:50 AM
Anyone try one of these new Peavey Vyper amps out?What did you think? Is the modeling better than others out there? Any thoughts or opinions would be cool to read.
Thanks!

I recently acquired a '66 Fender Super Reverb. The reverb tank is connected by two RCA connections (one in, one out). This to me looks a lot like an FX loop. I am wondering if it would be possible to use this in-out as an FX loop. Since this is a valuable amp and I don't want to screw it up, I am wondering if anybody has successfully done this and if some kind of impedance matching device needs to be instituted. Thanks again folks!

The Newcomer's Forum / H&K Warp 7 preamp problems
January 09, 2009, 06:49:45 AM
I own a Warp 7 212" combo from Hughes & kettner. When I plug into the main input the intermittent volume fluctuations. This is a reported problem in more than one user review from the posters over at Harmony Central, so I'm guessing this issue is not an isolated indecent. I know the problem rests in the preamp voicing section because I mostly use this amp's FX loop return with a modeling pedal to do the voicing, and have no problems with the amp's power section. Any ideas on what would be going wrong with the preamp section to bring these problems on would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!
