Title: Marshall Valvestate 8020 any useful mods
Post by: MasterVolume on February 26, 2026, 06:15:18 AM
Hi I picked up a 8020 for very cheap.

Cleaned the pots and it sounds ok.

Clean chanel is a little meh. Overdrive is somewhat better when dialled in for not to much gain mid scoop or presence.

Reverb is a bit noisy, a bit short and a bit trebly. A better reverb may make the clean more useable. It is what it is though.

I have tested clipping in som low value cap across the reverb return to trim some noise and highs but it makes the reverb a bit weaker and I think changes the resonance gives a little mid honk that's not there with no cap.

Any useful mods mods ?

Especially for the reverb circuit?

( Don't want to do anything too invasive at this point, however chucking a scrounged tank to the cab and drilling some holes for rca sockets is not totally out of the question if it will make the most difference.)

What's your take on the reverb circuit?
