i am designing and hoping to build a simple guitar amp head using the Runoffgroove Eighteen circuit. you can find that here: http://www.runoffgroove.com/eighteen.html
I cant find any power amps using the TDA2050 or TDA2030 for guitar. I just need a simple power amp design that would suit guitar, something around 18-40watts is good. This amp would be using a standard Marshall 1960 4x12 cab.
Also do you have to use a +/- power supply or can you just double the voltage and only use a + power supply?
i have some electronics knowledge but i know nothing about power amps.

1) Any and all of them are suitable.
2) You need the +/- power supply, as stated on the datasheet.
The + rail can power your ROG preamp by lowering it to +9V.
3) You *can* use a single supply, it's also explained in the datasheet , but it's more expensive/complex than using the dual supply.
4) You can also consider a chipamp kit, which simplifies your life (PCB, Transformer) and can be had from 20W to 50/60W.
You should use the 4 ohm input of your 1960 box, sound will be *very* good and loud.

if all else fails you could borrow/base your design on Fender frontman/15/15g design The later versions of this use a TDA2050
thanks for the help. i looked at the data sheet and saw the circuit on there. will that work well for guitar or will some caps need changing for values more suitable for guitar.

Build it as is, it will work fine.
The sound comes from your preamp and the chipamp just faithfully rises that level and drives the speaker with an exact copy.
If you want to tweak something, do it on the preamp.

Uses only a single 12-14V supply rail, comes with a heat sink and is super easy to build... oh and it only costs $10 :) I used one as the power amp in my Hurricane build seen here. http://www.ssguitar.com/index.php?topic=1237.msg7705#msg7705 Even with that little 6" speaker it was nice and loud.

yeah, that kit looks great but i live in new zealand and they cant ship here, i think. I looked around the local electronics stores and they have quite a few kits with matching power supply's. ill probably get one of them.

Qkits is just a US/Canada retailer. The kit itself is made by a company called FutureKit based out of Thailand. They have a distributor in NZ: http://www.surplustronics.co.nz/shop/
I don't see the kit listed on the site but you could contact them to ask if they import it. The future kit part number is FK607.
You could also contact the australian distributor http://www.kitstop.com.au to see if they stock the kit (assuming surplustronics doesn't carry it or costs more)

I'm probably going to get this kit http://www.surplustronics.co.nz/shop/product-FK608.html (http://www.surplustronics.co.nz/shop/product-FK608.html) because it is quite cheap, and build my own power supply from scratch. I think it is the next level up from the one that was suggested. But it might be a while before i can find the time to build this amp. I can't decide between the Thor preamp or the eighteen. When i build it i'll post some pictures and maybe some sound samples.

actually i think i'm going to build the thundercheif circuit with a few mods because it has less front panel wiring.
