I have the little amp (and I do mean little) that came with the epiphone pee wee les paul. It's a KIA3216S chip amp. I think it's about 1/2 watt. Through the headphone output it sounds OK - nothing to write home about but it'll do.
The speaker is a horrible little 3" no name piece. I could fit a 4" speaker in the enclosure but I don't know if there are any decent 4" guitar amp speakers out there? A 5" speaker might fit but I don't know if they exist. 6" will never fit.
Anyone know of a decent 4" speaker?
Smallest good one is the Mod 5", but you might use the amp as a head and plug it into an external speaker.
Thanks. I didn't even know jensen made a mod 5. I think it might have to much depth to fit in this pee wee box. I only have 2.5 inches to work with.
I wonder what roland uses in the micro cube rx. They're only 4 inches.
good luck finding a Mod 5 :) I managed to find one at some obscure reseller about 4 years ago but I think they were discontinued. It's not a great speaker, but I have mine in a tiny open-backed cabinet. It would probably do better in a sealed cab to help the bottom end a bit.

Although it *is* almost 2.5" deep.
Light years ahead of what you have now, but you should really need a somewhat larger enclosure to make it shine.
You might make a simple larger enclosure, and transplant your chassis there, together with a larger speaker. 8|

I'd try the speaker swap first, might get him where he is happy. Should be WORLDS better than what's in it now.
If he's going to build a new enclosure it would make sense to go with an 8" Jensen Mod or Weber. Still small, but much better response and efficiency than smaller speakers.
I think I might be better off trashing the amp. It's really cheap crap through out.

It is up to you and if you don't need a tiny amp, it may not be worth the effort. That said, I've seen some tiny amps that sound pretty good.
