Sorry for the long wait ::)
I bended the legs the other way!
It can take 12V and thats what im doing, the components for this are the same as almost all  stompboxes, dont have the same voltage ratings as the components used in tube amps.

I will build this one again but with a thicker copper trace, it does have high gain and my board is very thin....

OK, well here is a service to anyone wanting to do this build......I found out the hard way that the pdf etching image is mirrored, or flipped if you will. What happends with that is when you are populating the board, you have to flip it constantly to match the flipped image.
Now worst that that, once you have the whole thing populated and and soldered the chip sockets in place...only then you realize that the chips are reversed, if you don't want to solder the actual chips on the backside(trace side) of the board not using the sockets on the other side!.....is to flip the chip legs so that the chips are reversed.
Then you will be able to put them in da sockets.
I hope this is clear, the PDF file has the image flipped on the x axis, you need to 'mirror' the image before printing the etching image. That will save you some post populating stress/climax killer!
This file has been available for years now, so either no one built this thing or no one is talkin!
I actually think now that it was done on purpose years ago by the author to force us in buying the actual amp......in those days, DIY was a bit marginal and so I think that it protected his "market"!...then again, why post the shem and layout if you don't want people to use it!

OK I got it! all I had to do was to flip the chip legs upsidedown!...Ya its workin alright, its got tons of volume( I used a 250 K pot, did not have a 200K, maybe it would have less volume.
Anyhow, here are some pics of the setup, I originally wanted to incorporate it in the black box you see above, but now, as you see in the pics, this will be a combo talkbox and an option to use the amp and plug an exterior spkr. Its a bit too loud for the Yamaha keyboard 3W spkr so Ill have to be careful with the talkbox. Oh and it drives the above 10 inch speaker hard, ill have to check later for tone with the enclosure.
Ill report back when its all finished.

Well right now knowinf that its a good project is not want I need!, the pdf seems to print the layout with the x and y axis reversed.....I don't know how I could of reversed it while printing a pdf.
Now ill have to desoder the chip socket holders and resoder on the backside...... >:( >:(

OK, im almost complete on this build ::).....now Im really frustrated!, if you look at the layout, which was layed out on the wrong side of the board......now the chip pin1 does not seem to match the layout...in other words, I would have to solder the chips on the trace side of the board.
So can anyone confirm this, here is the page with the layout.
I already wrote a long while ago to Massenberg with no reply.
please, please, I dont want to throw it in the bin now that im so close!
cheers

Well I did do a Ruby build and that has a warm clean sound....I dont think this one will have as much as a clean sound, but I will use this amp for crunch rythim and heavy distortion. Ill report back once the build is finished.
The fact that it has low, mid, treble controls as it does gain and master volume...will surely give it some versatility.

Ya yer right, I just checked the layout!, ill be finishing this as soon as I get the pots. Ive done the pcboard and started filling it up!
This amp will go in this, which I scored last week, ive learned that traynor used some Marsland speakers in some amps, so im exited to try it out with the little rebel.

Im just about to try this one....all I need which is not included on the pdf is the pot values.....can anyone suggest some values to try out?
I sent an email to this guy, but the site is from 2004, so I dont know if he will reply!

no offence to anyone here, but my patience has run out!

Hello to all!....After sucessfully building a 12v Ruby augmented with a AMZ mosfet booster and a Hearthrob tremolo from DIY Stompbox(see picture thread), ill be trying a similar build but with a Noisy Cricket. Ive read that the Cricket sounds better at 9v than 12.Im guessing it has less headroom and breaks up faster, so probably for clipping its better at 9v.
Now since its a close copy of a Ruby design wise, I guess it would also have more headroom and clip less easily.
I am going to add some kind of booster before the Cricket, possibly a switchable Rangemaster....(dont know if it will run on 12v, possibly by rebiasing the ge tranny.)

The reason I ask is that the 12v supply lasts for ages on these type amps and I like having more clean headroom,
so the question is, if I put a booster in front, then it should act like its on 9v  with the distortion right?
That would drive the 386 similar to the Ruby?

Hello everyone, this is my fist post here after lurking for only 2 days! I was looking for a place like this....here is my First Ruby build, im currently building another one with similar setup, im reading to see if im going to put a Ruby, Noisy cricket, or some cool 3-4 watt chip amp!

This particular setup works on a 12v design, also with the Ruby is a Heartthrob tremolo, great trem from MarkM at DIY stompbox, that is followed by a AMZ mosfet booster at full boost, and that is driving the Ruby.
The speakers are 10 inch CTS from 1960's, 4Ohm total. I like the vintage crunch the spkr give, and it really comes alive with a Big Muff in front of it!
