Post by: clamup1 on November 12, 2010, 08:37:52 PM
hey im rebuilding an old cr-112. im changing out the ic's and changed out the opamp. i was wondering about the pots. the pc board has solder pads behind where the pots are soldered to the board. would putting the double pots on the board be benificial or bad? i emailed crate but they havent emailed me back. thanks

As a basic idea just respect the original design.
If they use single pots, you'll gain nothing using doubles.
Most factories try to simplify stock problems and often order boards on which different versions can be built.
It's not uncommon to find boards with "empty holes" and silkscreened parts which are not there.
As an example, I use the same board to build guitar, bass, and PA 100W power amps.
It includes a compressor, which guitar does not use, and current feedback, which bass and PA don't, etc.

What did you ask Crate in your email?   No manufacturer is going to approve of any changes you might make to their products, no matter how harmless or beneficial they might be.
