G'day everyone
I think I just bought myself a Gorilla TC110 Amp on auction.
I don't know why I did it, it just happened.
I paid $35Au ($25 US) for it so I think I can't really loose anything.
I believe these amps sound crap from what little I could find out on the net.
Does anyone have any circuits or information on Gorilla Amps ?
I read that Pignose made them.
I will have to go and pick it up next week when I go to the city (Hobart Tas)
If I'm lucky at least I scored a reverb tank, 6 knobs. a decent transformer, etc.
I might stuff a 1 channel Sunn Beta pre-amp into the box, just to confuse people.
Or maybe a Marshall Lead 12W reverb, with a nice celestion 12" speaker.
A Schematic would be nice if someone has one.

I like to learn new things, and I am very curious what a "Series A 4 String Bass Guitar" is.
Like, what brand etc. (Please forgive my ignorance if it is a stupid question)
Thanks.

20watt, not big enough to be called the "Killer Bee"

This reminded me of this nice design I found ages ago, I have drawn up the way I thing he connected the transformers.
I think its how Phatt ? said it was safer to  do it.
I think it has also been posted on  FreeStompboxes at a later date.

Wondering if the 2.5Watt  will be called Bumble Bee ?
Then I can't wait for the Wasp and finally the Hornet.
I might have to get a Jensen MOD 5" 30watt 8ohm Speaker in anticipation.
Love the work Joecoolo85, keep it up.   :dbtu: :dbtu: :dbtu:

Amplifier Discussion / Re: 9V Output on Amps ???

That is a very good point Enzo
Since I am not a musician, only a casual string plucker I would not know that.
I guess if the stage has mains power at the front so you can power a pedal board from somewhere in front of you then you don't want any extra cables to trip on.
I have only had a close view of people playing in clubs and pubs where the stage is very small.
I have seen The Angels, Midnight Oil, AC/DC and many other acts on small stages where they hardly moved around.
I guess I'm showing my age if I saw them on small stages early in their careers.
I have seen ABBA busking in a park in Stockholm before they got famous too, (I was really young)
I still think it would be feasible in small clubs and venues, or practice and home use.
I brought it up mainly because the expense would be minimal if incorporated in the build, and good for beginners at least.
It would also be one less item needed to buy, drag around etc.
I like all the answers so far, informative.

Amplifier Discussion / Re: 9V Output on Amps ???

I guess I was thinking more for home use or practice.
But if you consider that old style pedals only used around 4mA - 30mA each.
That's about 30 pedals at under 1 Amp if you are using overdrives, wahs, chorus, phasers, big muffs etc.
The 20ft cable going to my car trailer lights is smaller then a guitar cable, and brake light alone use 3.5 Amps.
Speakers carry more amps then pedal boards, cable is not thick as a fire hose.
Modern pedals can use a lot more, loopers and multi digital pedals can get close to 500mA, but how many use them ?
I am just guessing as I just tinker with playing, and making pedals and amps for my daughter.
I feel that 2 x 1.5A 9V outlets would be of use to a lot of people, but I know bugger all.
I was mainly wondering what others thought, before I add it to my next amp.
I feel that a 20 - 30 foot run should be ok if you start with 9.5V at the amp, good for 1 Amp with little loss with speaker cable.

Amplifier Discussion / 9V Output on Amps ???
January 31, 2022, 09:31:33 AM
I am wondering why Guitar Amps never have a 9V output on the back for  pedals ?
It would be really easy to include on a new build, and not very expensive.
How easy to run a few pedals with a 9V output already there.
Is there a reason I have never seen it done?
For $10 you could have 4 x 9V 1.5A outlets on the back of an Amp.
Most existing amps can probably have one added with the current transformer.
I would love to know what others think of this.
Is there a valid reason not to do it ?
Michael.

The only tiny speakers I have ever noticed decent sound from are in soundbars or computer speakers, a very few of these sound ok, sort of.
They are meant to be small with big sound, but I imagine they might sound crap if you take them out of the housing they are in.
If you find some cheap at a tip shop or second hand shop it might be worth a try.
I have a small sound bar on my computer which can get fairly loud, the speakers are very small in it, I'm sure I could drive it straight from a preamp pedal.
I have a Sunn Beta Lead pedal I might try it with one day.

I think the circuit diagram is in the first post on this link

Amplifier Discussion / Re: Peavey Bandit as speaker cab
November 18, 2021, 07:40:47 AM
I agree that you need to run the speaker wires into a Jack Socket mounted in the cab of the Bandit.
I'm not sure what you have now, but you could get a small box, like a pedal box 1590B, and mount it in the cab, and then mount your jack socket in there.
You will need a small patch lead with 2 x 1/4" male plugs on it to connect the Peavey speaker to the Peavey Amp.
I don't know where you live so I can't recommend a shop.
I Like Tayda for most of my parts online, but there are so many other great shops to get gear from.
Tayda is very cheap, and the postage is very good too in my opinion, but I just fiddle with stuff for me and family, home use.

I find Kicad great, I have only used it for less then a year now I think, but I am making up my own foot-prints and I have made some PCB's as well. :dbtu:
I am not sure when I will attempt the SMD practice as I am going to build some SS amps first, The Sunn Beta amps both Bass and Lead and also some Marshall Mosfets, and I also got some PCB's coming for the Sunn SL160/SL260 amp, but the SL160/SL260 is not supposed to be that good sounding.
The practice board should make up a BTDR2 on one half and the other half is the 5V reg, and the in/out amps with speed etc.
You can make a stock BTDR2 or an adjustable decay and frequency one if you want with that PCB.
Cut the board in half and join back to back and it should fit in a 1590A pedal.
I want to experiment to see if I can use this in a SMD sunn beta amp pedal with reverb and class D power amp eventually. (1590BB)
That's if it works, if not at least I will get some soldering practice and have fun doing it.

G'day
I found a circuit an a Russian web page and decided to make myself a PCB using KiCad so I can practice some SMD soldering.
I am calling the PCB "Micks Thick As A Brick", I have no clue if the circuit will work, but I had fun making it up.
I have ordered 5 PCB's from JLCPCB and will make one up some time in the future. If it works I will post that here.
The PCB can be cut in half and rejoined back to back so it might fit in a 1590A box (maybe).
Not all components are used, if the transistors are used then the R5,R10, R20 resistors are not used.
If the top half of the PCB is only used, then don't use the transistors or R43, R44, R45, R46, R47 and C36.
The SMD PT2399 should be the ones available from Tayda.
Just study the circuit and work it out.
