Amplifier Discussion / Re: Audio ICs for portables
February 17, 2009, 11:09:14 PM
I dont know about better than a Micro-Cube.  Too many bells and whistles.  But if you are talking about a simple low power battery operated amp, there are lots of chips available for use on battery power that will give you decent power.

The LM386-4 will give you about 1Watt RMS using only 8 cells (12V). Can operate down to 4.5 volts but at reduced power, maybe a little less than 1/2 watt.  Just 1 tiny 9V battery should give you a few hours of run time at a little less than 1 watt.  8 c cells should last quite long.

TDA2003 should give you about 2 1/2 Watts on 6 cells, and about 4 watts on 8 cells.  need 15volts (10 cells) to get max power around 6Watts.

There are several chips that can be used for battery powering a small amp.

Do you want to scratch build or do you want kits????

Amplifier Discussion / TDA2050 Pwr requirements
February 17, 2009, 10:36:44 PM
Hi guys, I have a few questions that someone might be able to help me with:

I have a TDA2050 chip I want to use to build a Guitar amp with.  Problem is that I can't seem to find Power requirements for the chip.  Have checked the Data sheet and it says nothing about current required.  Just says +/- 25v.  I have a 48V ct 100va (2 amps) transformer laying around I would like to put to use.  Is That enough to power it properly to make good power, or will it need higher current.

If not enough current (2A) How much will I need to develope full power?

How much power can I expect out of it on +/- 24V@2A

Any help would be muchly appreciated

Thnx------Max

Thnx anyway

Preamps and Effects / Looking for PCB
February 14, 2009, 09:44:15 PM
Hi guy's, Newbee here.  Was following some posts on the site and found this place very interesting, so I decided to join.  I have found a lot of excellent info here that I'm using to incorporate in building my Amp modules.

I am currently working on a few projects such as a TDA2003 Module (which it looks like everyone here loves) for use at home as a Guitar practice amp, a LM380 module (1w@4ohm with 12v 300ma supply) for use as a portable battery powered guitar amp, and a Hitachi chipped HA13118 module that will give me 10W rms into 4ohm with an 18v 1A supply, also for use as a guitar amp.
Also ordered TDA2030 and TDA2050 chips for future projects.

Have already built a few other projects such as regulated power supply's using 78XX series and LM317's and a few LM386 amp modules, both mono and stereo.  You got to love those 386's, so easy to setup, low parts count, and so forgiving.

I have got schematics from Redcircuits for the Fender Blackface Preamp, which I have noticed has been discussed in another post, and have already ordered the parts from Mouser so I can build the pre-amps for use on my amp projects.  I would really rather not perf-board them, so I am puting out a request for anyone who might have, or can make me PCB boards, or can direct me to someone who might have them or make them for me, for use in building these Blackface pre-amps.  I would gladly pay a reasonable price for them.  I would like to aquire 4 or 5 of the boards if possible.

Any help in this area of acquiring the PCB's will be so greatly appreciated

Thnx so much-------------Max
