Software / Re: Zoom G5 software

Thanks all. The Zoom has a built in USB interface. I've got it working now using Audacity. And with the Zoom software I've been able to edit the patches to what I want.

Yes I know switched mode can be noisy but have been gathering old supplies and finding quiet ones by trial  and error. Do you think I can just leave the 3rd wire disconnected?

Planning to use 19.5v laptop charger as a power supply for amps and other projects. It has a 3-core cable, red, blue and black. I only expected '+' and '-', whats the 3rd for?

If it sounds great and is cheaper, lighter and more reliable than a valve amp then why not.

Now got it working with Audacity. Just had to mess with the sound input settings and install driver on PC. Emailed Zoom to see if I can get a download code for Cubase also. Maybe Audacity is just as good? Mainly just want to record my own ideas.

I have a Zoom G3 which I want to connect to a PC for recording. It originally came with Cubase LE but that doesn't seem to be available any longer.  Not sure if the G3 is even compatible with Windows 10.
Any ideas? https://www.zoom.co.jp/products/guitar/g5-guitar-effects-amp-simulator-pedal

Most people probably use only one or two models anyway, even if they have 50. I also wonder if the audience would notice the difference in a stage setting - apart from us guitar nerds who get a front seat just to see the gear!

Tubes and Hybrids / Re: 12 v tube preamp

Shipping cost will double the price but might still be worthwhile if I buy other stuff from them. They do have tube amp kits from €150 or so. Still nervous about the high voltage stuff but I feel like I will have to scratch the tube itch some time.

Yes I have seen the Paia version in Craig Andertons project book. Might be an option if the kits are still available. Building it from the  schematic is probably beyond my skill level.

Sorry I meant Orange Micro Terror which has a solid state power amp. Just curious about how they run the 12AX7 preamp using a 15 v power supply.

I ordered some 12*U7 and sockets and am going to give this a try.
I see that there are some hybrid amps e.g. the Orange Tiny Terror which has a 12 AX7 preamp and uses a 15v power supply. Is that likely to be a starved plate or is the voltage stepped up internally? Is this a realistic option for DIY?

I had been wondering about those. It is sort of suggested that they have all the goodness of tubes without the drawbacks. I wonder...
