Amplifier Discussion / Re: USB charging

What's the advantage over just using a wall charger? Seems like you increase the potential for problems(and obsoleteness) by integrating redundant features.

You're good. I had a brain fart, then made one of those before-coffee responses in the wee hours and was corrected. So I deleted my post, because it would have done nothing to help. I'll stay out of it. Good luck, hope your cab turns out the way you want it to. ;)

I used to use a millet-design hybrid for a lot of mobile amplification needs. It actually wasn't half bad for my lighter neck pickups. I haven't tried it in a few years, but I don't see how it could hurt on mild output configurations. The devil is in the details.

If you really want to learn and experiment. I suggest you pickup a decent breadboard for testing. Its not very expensive, but it will help you test out a lot of ideas and designs with minimum soldering.

Amplifier Discussion / Re: Wallwarts?

A wallwart with the desired spec is fine. As joe said, amperage is what you should also be looking at, and aslong as your in spec, you'll be okay. I particularly like laptop adapters to find a decent quality shortcut to building a PSU.

Heres the problem, your trying to re-invent the wheel to get this amp going.

I say scratch that, start fresh, and use the housing to fit in a new project. You may aswell, for as much as you have trouble shooted this one, its going to just cost you a lot for a little payoff.

check the pots.
What power conditioner are you using? Ive had a few amps that were sensitive to being plugged straight into the wall that would hum.
