Amplifier Discussion / Re: Ground Loop Problem
May 07, 2006, 09:53:28 AM
How are you grounding your stuff?  In my experience with chipamps, star grounding is the best solution.  I had a ton of hum in my LM3886 before I grounded that way, it was going through the chassis for input and output signal causing a ton of hum.  Then I re-did it again because I had run wires near all the AC->DC power board and tranny causing hum lol, but just keep your signal wires away from power wires as much as possible, then ground everything at one point.  I actually soldered mine together at one point.

I would assume this is too shearly having more wattage which will allow for that more than anything else.

I just use insulated versions.  With the exception of my lm1875, but that is never open and I was careful to use the insulator ring and a ceramic so none of it is grounding to my sink.

Good luck on fixing this one.  How much got fried this time?

Preamps and Effects / Re: I win! Marshall DRP1

So far the DRP-1 seems to like my strat repro more than my Lyon, that could be that I only have a working neck pickup on the Lyon though, I want to see what it does with a bridge humbucker.

Just realized it doesn't have any EQ...you'd have to run an EQ pedal in front of it I guess.

Sweet!  It's good that we will have some documented proof of how different preamps effect the lm3886 setup.  I'd like to see someone try one of those cheapie behringer preamps and see how that does.  I'm contemplating buying one later in the summer if no one else does, they look neat.

It came in! w00t!!!  I've only played it a little, but I really like it so far.  I will have to get some clips of it later.  It will probably be a coupe days because I am finishing up the semester, and then visiting the parents over the weekend...so it might be a week or so.  If I can fit it in before then I will though, this thing rocks!  I wouldn't say it makes my lm3886 sound like a marshall per-se, but it does kick ass.

I think you have a setting that needs to be adjusted or something.  I can see it fine.  I would PM crystallas about it.

Why does each one get two lines?  IE - Vintage has two lines on each graph.

The components are part of the kit.  So you'd get the PCB and all components needed to make the power amp, minus heatsink and transformer.  Keep checking the forum, I'll post as soon as the stuff from brian comes in.  Otherwise, you can check out chipamp.com

I vote for Eminence drivers.

I did one.  It was the TDA2003 kit.  I didn't really care for it.

Not very loud, tone sucked as well.  I liked the little gem better.

Cool.  Let us know how it goes.  The DRP1 should be in soon and I will post up some sound clips as soon as I can.

I dunno...I have a feeling the modeling is poor.  Being that its behringer lol.  If you get it, I'd love to hear sound clips.  Even though I am getting my Marshall DRP-1, I might be interested anyway.
