Well if their tube amp wasn't bad enough,
now my Hiwatt bulldog 30r has gone kaput. :'(

I am not getting any sound when I plug in to either the high or low inputs or
use the distortion.Tried different cables, guitars etc.The spring reverb control is making some sound, which I hear through the speakers with nothing plugged in. The tone controls are not making any sound.
The whole amp works off the tl072 chip which is on a separate little pcb.
There are a couple of 4558 chips in there as well. The power light lights up as well.

Was working yesterday. Don't know what happened.
If it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all with Hiwatt.
Any ideas?

Would it be possible to upgrade the reverb tank?
It's about 9.75 inches long and has two springs.
The only markings are:
In 600
Out 2.2k
SH-250

Does accutronics make something?
Also thinking of using silver mica caps instead of the ceramic ones in there.

Well I have problems not only with the tube Hiwatt but this solidstate one.
This was "repaired" under warranty 4 times. Warranty is kaput right now.
Right now I occasionally get the radio on the high input jack.
If I push in the guitar cord in and out a few times it will go away for quite a while.
Still, what's causing it?
Is it a loose jack?
They jumpered the ground between the high and low jacks.
Also they added a jumper on another spot on the board looks like for another ground issue.
Also, the mid control with the distortion on, works backwards,10 to 0, but  with distortion off, works normally 0 to 10. Of course Hiwatt has not sent me a schematic. They should have one but...

Tubes and Hybrids / Hiwatt custom 20 tube hum problem
November 07, 2009, 01:00:20 PM
Took this amp in for repair and it has 60 hz hum.
I've been told the rectifier diodes might be the source of the problem,
but without a schematic the cost is through the roof.
Any ideas what the exact cause is?
