This type of thing is done. It's called a "Passive Radiator".... but it has very specific design requirements.
Typically used in sub woofers, tho I have seen them in small-ish bookshelf speakers.
The passive radiator design requires a sealed box to operate properly.
In a un-sealed box the results will be unpredictable but it will probably act as phatt has said...

Quote...non working speaker becomes a flapping piece of cardboard...

Not to mention the fact that the box is likely not "tuned" in any way to the speaker(s) parameters.
