The voltage is still AC at this point.  If you measure across the 2 legs with a meter set to AC you'll measure 300V.

I used a 270 in a tube amp that I built.  Most SS amps use transformers with lower voltage and higher amperage.

Do you need to replace a transformer or are you just curious about the ratings?

I found the chip and the datasheet at Mouserbut that link should work.

I was looking around for chips to use with a transformer I was recycling and came across the datasheet for the OPA541.  It seems pretty straight forward, almost like a big 386.

What about a voltage doubling circuit.  I should still have enough amperage. Or are those a bad idea for audio applications.  Either way I do have 2 of them.

I got a hold of a couple of battery back-up (the ones for your computer) transformers.  I'm guessing that they are 12-14 volt and maybe 7-10 amp.  Would this be something that I could use for a chipamp?  I am only a little bit familiar with power supply's.  Is it possible to build a suitable power supply with a simple but beefy transformer?  Thanks for any info.  John

Thats to bad    I think its an easy way to get the attention of people that think it might be to hard to do on their own.  If I was compentent with this stuff I would help.  Maybe someday.

How about a complete project?  Schematics, layouts, suggested mods and parts list,  all the info for a novice to build there own SS guitar amp with relative ease.  I built a tube amp from AX84.com and it was very easy to get good results with some basic skills and a little help.

Try AX84.com.  If you look at the CORE AMP section you'll find 3-4 good tube preamps to suit different needs.  All have good documentation and most have layouts

I just built my second Little Gem last week.  I built the first one in an hour and a little under 40 minutes for the second one.  For less than $10 (minus the speaker) you cant go wrong with these things.

  I was going through an old organ someone had donated to me and found 4 ?transistors? marked A7607 / EP1844A.  I tried a search which usually works and came up fairly blank.  Anyone here know where I can at least cross-referance these things to see if they're  worth making a project with them? 
  They are attached to some small heatsinks and there's a transformer in the chassis make me wonder about the power output af them.

I'm still very new to all of this electronics stuff so I'm probably not the best candidate for testing anything.  I feel good if nothing smokes on the first power up.

I have already built a Little Gem as well.  There's a post about using those for preamps.  So I could build 2 of those circuits and put one of my favorite OD or distortions in front of one of them?
