It's really not that expensive to just replace all the electrolytics at once.

The hum is a symptom , and the sputtering low frequency sound is motorboating, both caused by dying filter caps.

This is just my second post here, but I couldn't help notice this thread.   I have used a ligt bulb limiter several times, it's a quick easy way to safely control startups and testing.

Here's my take on the limiter...

I just joined a few minutes ago so this is my introduction post.  I found this site link at the GKB site BTW.

I am not much on SS electronics so this will be an interesting site to learn a few new things.
