Thank you I will try that. Hopefully it's something simple. This is my first experience with this type of amplifier.

It was a bad solder joint at the filter cap. A dab of solder and a he's off playing "my name is mud".
Thanks for your help!

Ok. Turn it on, the speaker sucks in and doesn't move. Preamp send to another amp works.  I do show DC voltage at the speaker cable.

 Thanks for the information!
I don't turn the amp on for more than a split second, because of the noise. I'm thinking of checking for DC voltage at the speaker output with my multimeter.. I will also check  those caps that you mentioned, when I take it apart.
I do not know if any music comes through because i don't want to leave it on too long.
The fact that none of the controls seem to change anything leads me to believe that  it has nothing to do with the preamp section.
Thanks again for your response.

Amplifier Discussion / Fender BXR 200
September 08, 2018, 07:52:30 PM
Hi, my son has a Fender BXR 200 head, which is making a loud buzz noise when turned on. I got it to work once, no idea how but now all it will do is BUZZ.
It almost sounds like when you  unplug a guitar and touch the tip of the guitar cable but LOUD. Volume control makes no difference.
So far I have tried:
A different speaker cab.
Different speaker cable.
Different guitar, and cable.
Turned all the controls up and down.
Patch cable between effects send and return.
Plugged in a footswitch.
Next I am going to take it apart and clean the pots, and look for signs of anything damaged or burnt.
Anyone got any ideas? Thanks.

Thanks i will try that. It would not surprise me if something were loose, this amp has a lot of road wear on it, my son's buddy gigged a bunch with it.

My son's line6 spider 120 makes a bunch of crackly noise when playing. He showed me that if you give it a slap on the top near the handle, it goes away.  I played it today for a couple hours, and it's a pretty good sounding amp. It would be a lot more useful without all that noise. Any ideas? Thanks.

I have one of these amps that I rescued from the trash. Someone tried to modify it. I am assuming they were trying to make it foot switchable, because the channel switch was  gone and there were a few feet of wire hanging out of the hole where the switch used to be. Brought it home put a new switch in, and it was a fine first amp for my son when he started playing. What kind of mods are you looking for?

Let me know if you want to unload it I have the 2x12 version and I love it. I also have a 20 watt single channel. Both sound great. I don't think they are collectible, but that's fine with me.

Amplifier Discussion / Ampeg 140c...
June 03, 2014, 11:33:18 AM
Hi. My son just got an Ampeg 2-12 amp with chorus for free, I think it is a 140c. Nice amp, sounds pretty good. It seems to have been sitting for a long time. It's got some dirty pots, which I can take care of no problem. The only thing I can find wrong with it is that the reverb is not working. When i turn the reverb knob, the volume goes down, and there is no reverb. The reverb tank is plugged in. Not sure where to go from here.

Interesting. Do you shred the paper towel, or use it as a patch? It's a pretty big hole, I think I got 2 fingers in it. I didn't get a good look at it, I just poked around through the hole in the grill cloth. Pretty sure there's no piece missing though. I will take a look next time I am there.

Amplifier Discussion / Impedence question....
June 21, 2012, 01:40:22 PM
Quick question. How critical is it to match the impedence on a solid state amp? I always make sure I do it on tube amps. The reason I ask is that there's a 50 watt 2x12 combo where I rehearse and there is a hole in one speaker. I was wondering if I would cause any damage by just unplugging the bad speaker.
