Amplifier Discussion / Vox DA5 Battery Problem
February 07, 2010, 10:11:43 AM
I have a Vox DA5 with the battery power out of service. I thought it was just a bad connection but that does not seem to be true. I had a good amp tech look at it. He said that he thinks there is a transistor out. He can jump it so the battery works but then the on/off switch does not work. He needs a schematic to get any further.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Carl

Amplifier Discussion / Re: Pignose Hog 20

I had a Hog 20. Gave it to my brother and wish I had it back.

It uses 2 six volt 4AH SLA batteries, wired in series. Don't overcharge them.

A very sweet sounding amp. My Korg Pandora PX4 sounded better with the Hog 20 than any other amp.

I am installing a new output transformer in the Valve Junior and will put in another jack for an 8  ohm output.

Thanks for the help.

I thought that might be true. I have some small 8 ohm speakers. I will use one and wire it as you show.

Thanks for your help.

The Newcomer's Forum / Speaker Question
December 23, 2008, 09:06:37 AM
I am building a speaker cabinet to use with a Valve Junior (4 ohm output) and a Vox DA 5 (8 ohm output). The speaker I want to use comes in 4 ohm or 8 ohm versions. Is there some way to wire the 4 ohm so it can also be used for the other?

Thanks,

Carl

Amplifier Discussion / Re: In the market for a new amp

I had a MicroCube and it was a great little amp. I sold it after I tried the MicroCube RX. The RX is more expensive at $230 but sounds much better. It has four speakers and two channels for stereo.

I just bought a Vox DA-5 for $140.00. It has an honest 5 watts and a 6 1/2" speaker. I can use it with my bass in acoustic jams. The Microcubes have smaller speakers and will not handle the bass. They all have aux in for CD or MP3 input.

The Vox also has a microphone input with a volume control.

The Vox and MicroCube are about eight pounds, the Microcube RX is 15 pounds.

They all run on batteries. The batteries last a long time and you can use the amps anywhere.

They are all fine amps.

I want to use a Ruby as a preamp for a Sonic Impact T Amp. Can it be directly connected or will I need some kind of a buffer?

Any help will be appreciated.

The Newcomer's Forum / Amp Power Rating
April 23, 2008, 09:31:30 PM
I want to build a battery powered amp comparable to a Roland KC 60. It is rated 40 watts and the maximum power on the rating plate is 45 watts. There is no additional information on the Roland site. Is there any way to find out what the RMS power is?

Amplifier Discussion / Battery Powered Tripath Amp
April 12, 2008, 03:09:25 PM
I want to use a Sonic Impact  T Amp to build a battery powered keyboard / mini PA amp similar to the Roland Cube Monitor. The Cube Monitor has 30 watts through a  6 ½" speaker and weighs 11 pounds. The T Amp has 9 watts per channel. I want to use an 8" Eminence Alpha with an SPL of 100.9 so it should be loud enough.

Is there a way to put both channels through the same speaker, or will I need to use two speakers?
