Hello,
After many mods, I would like to put a reverb tank into a Squier 15. I have installed a 12" speaker, offset the clipping diodes, and reduced the size of one of the resistors in the front end of the amp.
So far it has worked out well. I would like to take it further and add a reverb tank as I think it would more depth and texture to the sound. I would appreciate any suggestions, and or input regarding this project.
I already know this is a cheap amp, not worthy of any serious time or effort however, the modifications so far have led to amazing results.
Thank you for any replies or suggestions you may have.

The Newcomer's Forum / Harmonic Generator
May 10, 2014, 03:24:41 AM
Hello,
I would like to know if anyone is familiar with a PRS HG-70 Harmonic Generator. Would it be possible to make a stand alone Harmonic generator to plug a guitar into, and then into an amp? I know this question is really out
there but I looked just that up (Harmonic Generator) and it seems possible.

The Newcomer's Forum / Lowering voltage

Hello,
Looking at Ohm's Law I cannot understand how to calculate a given voltage and stepping it down to
a desired voltage. Is there a formula to calculate the amount of resistance needed to get from ?Volts to ?volts

The Newcomer's Forum / Resistors

Hello,
How can I tell the difference between a 56K resistor as opposed to a 560K resistor by color code? It seems that both are the same.

The Newcomer's Forum / Speaker question ?
December 24, 2013, 04:17:10 PM
Hello,
Like I  said before I know I ask a lot of dumb questions, however I had an idea and was wondering if it is possible.
I would like to wire two 8ohm speakers to an amp. Is there any way to put a split second delay on one
of the speakers, so that it is transmitting the same signal only a split second later? I don't know if it is at all
possible, or how much trouble it would be even if it could be done.

The Newcomer's Forum / Tube mods on solid state amps ?
December 19, 2013, 04:16:53 PM
Hello,
I have used Gerald Weber's books to modify tube amps. Most of the things worked. I am wondering if a
few of them would be applicable to solid state amps ?
1. In the preamp would it be possible to use the method of bypassing the cathode resistor with a capacitor ? 2. Is there a way to changing cathode resistor value, or is there even anything comparable in the circuit ?
3. Would reducing value of resistors divider coupling stages be possible, and if so how dramatic of an effect ?
I would like to attempt these things on a Fender Squier 15 that I have. I have looked at the schematic and fail to understand what would represent a cathode in the little triangular amps on the diagram.
Thank you in advance for any help or advice.

The Newcomer's Forum / Speaker change ?
December 17, 2013, 04:42:06 PM
Hello,
I know I ask a lot of dumb questions, but if everyone will just bear with me this time I would like to know what dictates speaker ohms. I have a (Crate GX-40C+), there are two speakers that are 4ohm-6". I want to change the speakers. I have two 8ohm-12" speakers that I would like to use, however it is my understanding that this will cut power by half. While I never dime the controls, how much would it effect the sound at lower levels ? Would there be any chance of damage to the amp ?
I understand the obvious solution would be to buy two 4ohm-12" speakers, but that could easily cost two
to three hundred dollars. At this point that is not an option for me. Thank you in advance for any information.

Schematics and Layouts / Explanation of terminology
December 08, 2013, 03:53:10 PM
Hello,
Is there a site that has maybe a dictionary explaining all of the terms used on this and other forums. I don't have any idea of what a Mofset is compared to an IC chip, or some of the other terms used. I know it all makes sense to you. But as a beginner in solid state, it is not long before I am overwhelmed with the terminology that is second nature to most of you.
If someone could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated, It is difficult to read the
posts and have to look up a term in the Radio Shack Dictionary of Electronics, only to have to come to the
conclusion that it may be just slang that is common knowledge among people seeped into electronic mods.
Thank you in advance for any information provided.   :-[

Amplifier Discussion / Crate / GX-40C+
December 03, 2013, 03:33:35 PM
Hello,
Does anyone have a readable schematic of a Crate GX40-C amp, with the preamp laid out. I have one that Loud let me download but it is not clear enough to read the values of anything. I know it is an amp of
the previous owners, and that is probably all they have in their data base.

The Newcomer's Forum / Explanation of schematic values
November 26, 2013, 03:09:46 PM
Hello,
You guys recently walked me through a problem I thought was overwhelming. It wasn't as bad as it
seemed. I tackled it successfully. Now after being exposed to the schematics I have a question about a
few of the ways the values are marked.
Caps marked such as C8 10/50. What does each number mean? I think it may have something to
with the fact that the circuit has AC and DC voltage running through it. Also on the pots some have a
marking like 100KL, what does the L mean?
Thank you in advance for any information provided.

Amplifier Discussion / Fender Squier 15
November 21, 2013, 04:16:16 PM
Hello,
This is my first post. I live way up in Oregon so and there not much in the way of repair shops or the like in this area. I am interested in learning how to do simple repairs and improvements on my own amps and equipment.                                                                                                             I own a small squier 15 amp and would like to know if this amp worthless or are there ways to improve the sound? I have some 12" 8 OHM speakers, but I am wondering if it even has enough power to drive one of them. I would also like to know if I may be able to change any of the resistors or capacitors to open
it up so it sounds larger?
I would appreciate any help anyone could provide. Thank You in advance!!!!
