Title: Short before Diode?
Post by: d4v1d5hu13r on June 07, 2008, 02:23:57 PM
I sold a guy an amp I used to have. A Solid State Crate GLX1200H[using the earlier Flexwave preamp] and there's a problem where you have to crank the volume of the amp to get it to pump the volume out or you're stuck with a fizzy volume level. So it happened once to me and to him just now when he got home [he called me] and he said something about a short before a diode, and the diode isn't getting enough energy. Can you help diagnose it any further before he takes it to a shop? Really don't want to have to take the amp back.

Try this.  Plug a spare cord into the effects send jack, and then the other end right back into the effects return jack.  if htis restores the sound, then the return jack needs service or cleaning.

If the amp has a pair of jacks marked preamp out and power amp in, try the same test there.
