I think they sound very similar, can't tell which is which. Are you involved in the design of these? What about power comsumption?

cheers

No disrespect to AMT or KMG but I was onto this a long time back and found a link to some silly demo which on the surface looked legitimate but I lost interest very fast when the demo guy Lied or shall I say misrepresented the A/B test.

He used the non reverb channel for a real AX7 and had the FET AX7 in the reverb channel.

He claimed they where both the same preamp so either the chap doing the test knew absolutely nothing about Valve Amps or if He did (which is far more likely, wink) then He "Misrepresented the FACTS" which to me is as good as lying. Therefore I assumed a sham. >:(

Anyone,, (Even Me) with only a limited understanding of how those old Vibroverbs or similar Fender amps worked would know that the reverb channel has One Extra triode stage in the signal path (whether or not the Reverb is engaged makes no difference)
and That Extra Stage is where most of the mojo happens, so the test was BS.

The claim was that both channels use the same preamp values/layout which was the only truth but from there it was BS.

Sadly the average player would not realize this omitted but super critical fact and assume the mojo came from the fancy black blob.

Having said that I do think the idea holds great potential and as KMG has Obviously shown SS can work brilliantly and over time may well become the norm.

But I just hate people who twist the facts to suit themselves to market their product. >:( >:( >:(

THChrist, all specs you can find in official datasheet
http://www.amtelectronicsusa.com/AMT12AX7WS.pdf
Phil, I tried to make the most of a fair test:
- I used only one type of tubes while recording (no mix of tubes)
- I didn't change control positions & mic position between recordings.
- I used reamp to eliminate difference in playing.

Hi KMG,
Whoops sorry good man no no no,, I was Not referring to your test setup which I have no doubt you have done fairly. :dbtu:
Sorry if I did not make that clear.

It was just a youtube demo link by someone over on FSB (it was,, long time back memory fades) And I was very interested. As I'm always interested in SS stuff like this.

And I was quite certain it was AMT,,,, BUT

Hold press;
I made a complete stuff up. :-[ :-X :duh :loco

It WAs NOT AMT. So all apologies to AMT.

It was *Tonegrinder*.

I got lucky,, it's still there.
I played it yet again several times over to make certain I was not missing something as I know I'm still learning.

And here is the link;

And what about these? http://www.jetcityamplification.com/2012/05/06/retrovalve-amber/
I didn't hear these devices.

The main benefit of 12AX7WS is very accurate emulation of triode V/A curves.

Yeah, but the only drawback (at least for me) is the shipping from Russia, so I'll pay more and wait even more. Our postal service (I'm from Peru) is plagued with thieves...

Have it shipped by EMS , it exists both in Russia and Peru.
Safe, fast, the cheapest Courier (because it's State Owned), and with tracking all the time, until it's personally delivered to your hands.

With regards to solid state vacuum tube replacements such as the AMT Warmstone 12AX7 VT replacement devices, I love AMT SS products, but I don't give a crap about some scientific transfer function as a sales point! Do they sound good or not...kinda simple hugh kids. Anecdotes don't mean anything with out at least some comparisons to real vacuum tubes and the other related vacuum tube replacement devices already on the market. There is a company in the US that already has solid state vacuum devices being produced, sold worldwide, and four US patents. Does anybody know who this US company is and compared them to the AMT devices?

Which would be?

Too early and still sleepy for guessing games.

That's where those "scientific transfer functions" come in. Those are the only objective and universal data about tubes. If transfer curves are identical or similar then the same thing can also be expected about overall performance.

QuoteDo they sound good or not...

Is not a good example of objective and universal data. Everyone can have their own - often highly biased - opinion about that topic.
