Just wanted to post these interior shots of the little Peavey JSX MINI for those who are curious. Just a little amp porn.

Thanks for the links phatt, it will give me lots of information to ponder.
Tubes and Hybrids / Identifying sections of tube amp
January 22, 2016, 10:06:47 PM
Trying to learn once again, so I guess I will raise my hand and ask a question makes my face turn red. So far I understand enough to work my way through and identify a power transformer and rectifier section...after that I am kinda lost as to what section is what on a tube amp. Can anyone give me a heads up on the various "sections" of a tube amp and how to identify them on the schematic as well as on an amp?

That video was made with the volume at about 5 with an attenuator on very low (or high). The change from the stock 4'x8' speakers to an old Celestion 12', that coupled with the capacitor mods are dramatic. Now when the amp turned up enough to move some air it sounds a whole lot like an old Marshall. Very dynamic, it really nails those ever illusive "in between" sounds.

Good idea Enzo I will do that, thanks :)

Here is a video of the amp after it was finished, I like it.

Is it just the truss rod nut that is missing? That alone would obviously be an easy fix. If it is a more extensive problem, call a repairman.Try watching this video to get an idea of what might need to be done.

I just tested a 68K 10% and it tested at 76.7K ohms is it too far out of spec? How do I determine this for myself?

I have an old 1973 Celestion that seems to work fine that would be a good candidate. What would be the best way to make sure the cone and spider along with the rest of the mechanism are clean before I install the speaker? I'm thinking compressed air unless someone has a better idea that they would like to share.

I have a 1972 Traynor Studiomate that has four 8" speakers in it. I am thinking of removing the speakers and replacing them with a new baffle and a 12" speaker. The speaker tap for the amplifier is 8 OHM and the speaker I would like to use is 16 OHM, would this be okay?

Thank all of you guys for your input. As per g1 and phatt I removed the capacitors that you mentioned and that definitely helped. :dbtu: I also am using a Weber MASS Attenuator which is working great.

A signal will pass through three jacks marked "Sting Instruments" in the center but the others to the right marked "Microphone Accordion" will not pass a signal. The Vibrato/tremolo does not work and I am not sure if the jacks labeled so are for foot switch or for an instrument. What should I try first ? I hope the schematic is close, if anyone has a better one please post it. I believe that this is a 1955 Wards Danelectro amplifier.

I have a Traynor YGM amp that has a Baxandall tone stack, which seems to be great for clean tones. I would like to change this feature as it is way too fizzy when it breaks up. What type of tone stack would give the YGM3 a "darker" tone? This is the YGM-4 version with (4) eight inch speakers.

Thank you for your help, as you see I am a newbie, yet you are very helpful.
