Good to hear you are not affected too bad by the flooding phatt, way too many people have died from it.
I have been keeping an eye on it as my dad lives in Casino NSW.
I think Lismore went right under with the river rising 14.4m,
I remember being there a few years ago and saw all the markers high up on buildings from previous floods, worse this time.

The only one I know of is in this thread, a partial trace from photos on page 5

I would love to see the circuit you have of that power supply Phatt, I have never played with vale circuits except HV sparktesters in industrial situations.
Sparktesters are used in cable manufacturing to check the insulation when the cable is made, I worked as a maintenance sparky most of my career.

Is that the 10 Watt stereo amp from Silly Chip you mentioned ? From about 2014 or so.
I keep thinking about making a valve amp but the transformers are pricey just for playing around with something for a hobby,
valves aren't cheap neither when you need a bunch of them in one hit.

But that valve bug keeps nibbling in the back of my mind.  :)

Tubes and Hybrids / Battery-Powered-Tube-Amplifier
March 02, 2022, 05:38:41 AM
I came across this when I was doing something on the net, I think it is cool enough to post it here for everyone to check out.
I especially like how he generates the high voltage for his designs, could be useful for tube pedals.
I think the design can easily be adapted for a stomp-box pre-amp,
The portable bluetooth tube amp uses a 12AX7 and a 12AU7 tube, the JCM800 uses 2 tubes in the pre-amp.
I wonder if a JCM 800 pre-amp into a LM386 would sound ok ?
Anyway, I found it interesting, and thought provoking. I just wish I was good at using Spice programs so I could play with the idea more.
I think it would be too hard for me to get into Spice, my Dr keeps pumping me full of opioids for pain, messes with the head too much.

Thanks for confirming the thermal compensation g1, I only found out about it when I got this amp.
Apparently it is also common to mount small transistors to the heatsink for the same purpose.

I was also looking at the 8EB2C1B reverb tank, or possibly the Belton BSN2EC2C1B.
The Belton has a different output impedance then the Accutronics when marked as a "C"
Anyway, I am glad to hear someone else thinks the 8EB2C1B tank would be closest as I'm not experienced with reverb tanks.
Thanks for replying.

Close guess Joe, I think it is for temperature compensation,
It helps with the changing biasing of the power transistors as they heat up (in my opinion), but I could be wrong.
I was actually hoping someone might be able to provide a part number or something to help identify the actual diode.
Its a strange shaped diode, I have not seen many like it in the 50 years I have played with circuits.
Here is a link to the original patent of the idea back in 1966 :https://patents.google.com/patent/US3452281
Some more ideas :https://www.tutorialspoint.com/amplifiers/bias_compensation.htm
It is an interesting topic, but gets too complicated for me nowadays.

I think you might be right Phatt, I think I was just feeling and thinking like I did back in the 70's.
If I called you an old fart I would be insulting myself too. But who cares how old we are.
Life is like a long train journey, the smart ones sit back and enjoy the view, the rest worry about getting to the destination on time.

I wonder if most upcoming groups in the future will use mainly SS amps like these ?
Why would a young person spend 10x that amount for a tube amp, I think the music scene will change very soon.
If a young band builds up their style and sound with SS amps why would they ever to to tubes ? It would not sound right to them.

Here are the last files, made with KiCad 6.0.2 , great free program for making up PCB's
Also positioned the pots on the PCB to correct spacing but did not make a PCB up.
Also a scan of the track side of the PCB (Mirrored to help trace components on top)
The scan is fuzzy because it was lifted off the scanner by the heat-sink bracket.

I might keep this amp, in original condition purely to conserve it as an original, if I want to mod it I can always make a copy.
(Apart from the Electrolytic caps, changed them when I had the PCB out)
If anyone can help me with the Reverb Tank identification, or new equivalent type, then please do.
Also if someone knows what D14 might be, please guess away.

Schematic completed, I don't know if I should post it under "Schematics and Layouts" as well ?
I can't work out what D14 is, the one that is mounted in the heatsink, see above pics.
I have no idea what the Reverb Tank is, it looks like the same shape as the old Folded Line ones.
The Out coil has a Red bobbin. the In coil has a Blue bobbin, resistance DC on schematic.
The only writing on the reverb tank is "26  87  278" on one side. (And Input & Output on other side)
If someone can identify the tank, or a modern replacement, then please post it here thanks.

The Schematic is traced by me and I can't guarantee it is 100% correct, but I think it is.

Pictures of the amp when I picked it up, it works perfectly, no problems.

G'day
I love making up pedals, amps etc for my daughter and myself.
My problem is that I can barely play guitar, and no way would I like to hear what I play.
When I make up an Amp, like I am doing now, I would like some way of testing the sound,
I would love it if someone who can play an electric or bass (or both) could record some dry tones and leave a recording that anyone can use.
If I came up with the best pedal ever, and then plucked or strummed my cheap guitar it would sound like a dogs dinner and no-one would like the sound sample.
Lets call it:  Sample1-Chord set,   Sample 2- Plucking etc. Or Sample 1- Stairway intro....
If we could all send the same signal into our gear and then post samples we might get a better understanding of what someone else has made.
This makes sense to me, but I know bugger all about it really.
Soo... Could someone who has the recording gear please make some test tracks up for me with a clean dry signal please. ???

Also while I am asking about this, what would be the best way to inject the signal, I can use a computer signal out, DVD player signal out, Phone (Windows 8).
How much should I drop the signal from say a computer sound card to mimic a guitar out. 5 meg resistor with a 1 meg pot ? A small op-amp circuit for high Z ?
All comments good and bad will be greatly appreciated, thank you
Michael

Yeah, the input power to the amp is 150W, 240V here in Australia
I haven't picked it up yet, I'm going into Hobart (Tassie) next week and I will pick it up then.
It looks like I might have to trace the circuit myself when I get it.
If I make a schematic up I will post it here.
For $35 Au ($25 US) I think I can't loose even with a Gorilla Amp.
The photo I posted is from the Auction House I got it from.
It will entertain me for a day or two at least when I get it.  :)

Thanks for that Enzo.
I'm not sure if it is a small practice amp, it's over 100 Watts and has a 12" inch speaker from what I understand.
But you might be right with the components, the Gorilla TC-35 has one Op-Amp and a TDA2030.
I can't find much information on the TC-110 on the net, I was hoping someone here has some info on them.
Maybe practice amps are bigger then I thought.  :)
