LM4780 is two LM3886s on one chip.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I tried to upload a bigger photo of the front panel, but there's a size limit for this site.

If you need something really big you can always use photobucket or another image hosting site.

Just replace the two big guys for starters, those are the power caps.

Replace your power caps, if they are old, they will dry out and cause noises like this.

Sounds like a good simple build, not a stage rig, but definetly something cool to play with.  Thanks for signing up too btw!

Amplifier Discussion / Re: Wallwarts?

You would need to wire it into a powersupply section of a board that would go from positive 40v, negative is ground, to +/- 20 with a middle ground.

The biggest reason I can think of is lack of amperage.  Although, the voltage would be a problem two.  18v ww would only give +/-9volts, way too small.

Yeah, either one will sound pretty good.  But keep in mind there is no EQ on either.

Wow, looks great, should make for a sweet enclosure.  See, you don't need to *buy* an enclosure.

Yeah, you'll want to drain all the power caps.  Even if the SS section uses a different power section, its still safer to drain all power caps in there.

On a side note, SS preamp and tube power section??  I'd only heard of the other way around.

How'd you make the schematic?  It looks great.

Preamps and Effects / Re: TL071 preamp = super easy

The output caps are already 10uF which should be plenty large.

Up the input cap to 10uF and it should be fine for bass.  As far as the tonestack goes, I'm not 100% sure, but I think you'd be fine.

I don't think you can use that...on that same note, I don't think I've ever seen a transformer with only two secondary wires.
