Can someone advise on  the correct way to solder the kind of voltage regulators found in amps ? ie; TDA 2050. Some suggest earthing the body to ground and then there is the question of the correct soldering iron temp.

Thanks for the post. The amp in question is a Vox Cambridge 30 reverb. model no. V9130 made in 2005. I cant see the part numbers clearly on diodes D5&D6 without removal. One seems to say 00. I was advised to check these as there was a short in the system ( at voltage regulator) causing the transformer to get hot-although it did survive. As far as I am aware there is no schematic for this model available from the main agents certainly not in the UK.

Does anyone know the value-and purpose, of D5 and D6 Diodes on a guitar amp curcuit board?

On the subject of authenticity,in my experience Roland are pretty good. I own the microcube portable  4 speaker model. The AC30 setting is very authentic as is the Blackface . Not so good on high gain/ overdrive but then it is only 5 watts in total. The more recent 40 and 80 watt XL range have had good reviews.
As I said previously, the alternative is to buy 4 or 5 valve amps which add up to a lot of money. most guitarists are not proffesional.

Amplifier Discussion / Modelling amps-genuine or not?

There are many out there who describe modelling amp voicings as clinical or synthetic or even phoney.
It could be true in some cases. However the alternative, which is to buy the real deal-valve amps, is very expensive. A Marshall,Vox AC,Fender and Mesa alone can amount to several thousand pounds or dollars;you then need space to store the things. I own a small modelling unit and the sounds, while not capturing every nuance of what they imitate, come across as genuine enough for me.

The amp is a Vox Cambridge 30r. Discontinued in 2005, these were similar to the Marshall valvestate in that they had one ECC83 tube in the overdrive section.

Because it is discontinued they no longer supply parts for this model bar two curcuit components. There is no curcuit schematic available either. The voltage is stepped down and then fed through to a TDA 2050 IC which works on about 25volts. It's possible they never had a transformer for this from the start.

how do you find out output voltages? the curcuit has a valve driven overdrive-like the old valvestate

I need a replacement transformer for a Vox hybrid amp(non-modelling). it has 4 output leads plus earth. I should point out that UK Vox distributor KORG cannot supply such a thing
The top is marked 066-CVE GT 0006. Whether that means anything-i dont know. the amp curcuit is regulated by a ST electronics TAD2050 chip with an output rating of 32watts.

Is a transformer like that available to buy or would it have to be re-wound?
