i have voltage going into the chip with a heat sink to the right of the top capacitor to the left of the transformer.i notice it has one of the legs going to the led light circuit trace.got no idea what it is supposed to do as there is no part number on it....here is a picture to go by.....ed    http://s1093.photobucket.com/albums/i432/edwardeffect1/?action=view&current=Pic209.jpg   hope the pictures are ok.if you need anything different let me know? thanks!!

i have a series limiter with a 100 watt light bulb in it.i have all the voltages, but no indicator light and no output.no blown fuse, so i didn't hook it up th the current limiter...the switch is not labeled.this amp reminds me of the klon centaur pedal , where the designer is trying to be sectrative with his circuits by hiding them in epoxy or sanding off the part identification.i have pictures, but  they are to large to send. i have tried previouly a few times and can't get them to this site. any help with uploading would be  great.going to be a tough one to fix.without part identifiacation and no schematic.whatever solder they use on the board has a really high melting temperature.what kind of solder do they use?i have a desoldering vacuume tool and usually it removes the solder in seconds. not on this circuit board...ed

i figured it out its a switch with one of the legs either cut off or burnt off. it goes thru the heat sink and between the fins there is a mini toggle switch. i tryed putting it in the opposite dirrection figuring that might be the problem, but still got the same results.no powering up.got 50v on the b+ and -50 on the b-; also got 12v on the v+ and -12v on the b-. getting 4.7 volts on pin 8 of one of the ic'si will posts pictures in the morning.alot of components have their values sanded off the part,so when you work on this one if you have no schematic and no part identification things could be tough.tryed e-bay and the web for pictures of the switch legs and couldn't find anything.it's a nice setup to work on. it has a cover on the top and bottom of the unit. all amps should be built like this. easy access to the components on both sides of the board.seems like a well made amp...thanks...ed

i got lucky! my dad always said to me that even a blind squirrel gets an acorn now and then......ed!!

2 thumbs up on this amp for tone.alot of good tones without even trying.maybe the past owner reprogrammed it...it's a keeper! love it!!!!!

got a electracoustic amp that wont power up.from the power transformer the leads go to a 1k resistor that is enclosed in a gold anodized heat sink( which reads.999k).then it goes into a red square item (c&k u21 rectifier?)that has 2 grounded legs on the bottom and then there are 4 more  legs, but one leg is missing.where can i get this part and does anyone have a schematic so i can figure out where the 4th leg goes.the fuse is good.i haven't got into any voltage checks yet...thanks...ed

how are the output chips in your amp? i just fixed my flextone lll by replacing them.my amp would play and after the output chips heated up the volume would drop off.it's common for them to go bad.plug into your amp with your guitar and run a cable from your effects send into another amp input if you get sound you have a problem in the output section, which is probably your output transistors.to find my bad cs4221-ks in my johnson mirage  i signal traced it with a mfj signal tracer injecter.it had signal coming into the chip, but nothing coming out the analog outputs.i paid about $80.00 for it it's small and runs on a 9 volt battery.it has 3 leads a signal out a ground and a signal in. i put a disassembled 1/4 inch phone plug in the input and hook the signal out to the tip the second terminal gets my ground lead, then i use the signal in lead for probing just like an oscilloscope.intead of a picture on my scope you get sound.you can here if an ic is amplifying the signal.also works good to find cold solder and testing transistors.i have fixed many amps with just this tester.works good for signal tracing guitar pedals also....ed...

thanks enzo for the tip. looks like the brushes i have used on cars for chip repair...thanks....ed

hey!!!!! i figured it out. i downloaded the manual and found out there were 2 small(very small buttons one near the delay and the other near the mod knob).i pushed the 2 bttons now all the lights and effects work....finally got it fixed...works great i really like this amp for sound. it's a bit on the heavy side.but someone put wheels on it , so i can live with it....thanks...ed

saying of the day if your lights are out and your effects are not working on your line6 flextone lll push the buttons!!!!!!

replaced the 2 tda 7293 output ic's and the amp volume problem is fixed.i did a factory reboot holding channel's a & d at the same time during power-up .the delay and effect knob light light up when i do the reboot.after that they go out and the delay doesn't work or the effects (this includes their lights). the reverb  works fine....any troubleshooting ideas anyone!if i get the delay and effects going it's good to go.love the tone of some of the different amp settings.i think they rival any tube amp.hate to say that as i have alot of them.....ed!!!

looking for ideas on fixing circuit board traces.what glue would you use for glueing a physically good trace that is loose from the circuit board ,but is in good shape otherwise?what fixes do you recommend for broken traces.(examples:buss wire,.030wire)  how do the circuit trace pens work?is it to high of a temperture that causes traces to get broken and removed from the board?any other ideas?jump in!!!thanks....ed

forgot to tell you i just bought a hot air station and i removed my cs4221-ks chip from my johnson mirage.i bought a x-tronic4000 . it is the cats pajama's.works like a dream. check out one of my posts with a you tube video of a simular hot air station(the one with a plastic pump)......ed!!!!.............(what is the best way to remove and replace smd components)

hey superman! a say that with pride.you know alot more than me on this subject.i am fixing a line 6 flextonel lll that plays perfectly then the volume drops off.hope it is an output transistor and nothing digital.the delay and reverb lights don't light anymore since i did the factory reset.i am also working on a johnson 50 watt mirage and i needed the same cs4221-ks chip as you .i went to this site  http://chips-now.com/ and had about a dozen places with this chip for sale.all you do is sign in with your information and request the number of chips you want i got 3 @ $5.00 each and $8.00 shipping.mouser and all the other american suppliers had nothing.my chips are on the way as we speak from hong kong. i used paypal and my credit card to buy them...hope this helps you. if you have any ideas on my flextone lll i have a post on this site......help!!!!!!!hope this helps you get your own cs4221-ks's...later.....ed!

here is a site on you tube with a simular unit being used(Aoyue 852A). the aoyue has a plastic air pump and the x-tronics 4000 i bought has a metal heavy duty pump....ENJOY!!!!!!!     http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOEHstgaVLM&feature=related

p.s. i used mine with no gloves with no problem! the gloves make the unit look scarey.

of coarse i'll tell you to use gloves to prevent burns, but for me i'm carefull and haven't needed them....
