The Newcomer's Forum / Poofed PS parts
September 22, 2011, 10:28:24 PM
I have a power amp with some blown parts on a power supply board, a TO-220 and a TO-92 package. I looked at the number on the opposite parts and the TO-220 package has an f with a 209 then A940. I did a search and found a Fairchild part KSA940 noted as a vertical deflection output transistor. It lists the complementary part as a KSC2027, this is the part I think is the burnt one I have.

The TO-92 package is a 2N5551 thats connected to what Im thinking to be the KSC2027.

Am on the right track here? The output of this power supply board is 100 volt.

The Newcomer's Forum / Choosing caps
September 02, 2011, 07:03:22 PM
When I look at catalogs for electrolytic capacitors I get rather overwhelmed by all the different specs until I just give up. Whats the basic spec to look for with replacing the cathode caps and the filter caps? I have a Gibson Scout with a gawd awful hum with scratchy pots. Other than that it sounds really good. All these caps are 20 uF at assorted voltages.

The Newcomer's Forum / Testing small axial caps
August 20, 2011, 05:56:28 PM
I have some small caps that look like resistors but green in color. A couple of values I recall is 10 pf and 100 pf. The cap check on my meter works well with most caps I try with it but these small resistor looking ones dont check. Ive tried using the resistance range but Im not sure if these can be checked. Any insight on testing these type caps would be wonderful.
