Is it common for a PA/intercom mic preamp to use a DC adapter

I am seeing old Dukane 🎤🎙� mic preamps and they have stuff like "24v DC input"

Wondering if there is/was a specific reason for this 

Maybe the answer is because it works? Idk

Sounds like phantom power for condenser mics.  Modern stuff uses 48V for phantom.

Yes sir thanks.  Wow  no I don't plan on using any mics just looking for a boat anchor to go between a tuner/cassette/CD and my boat anchor Dukane p.a./intercom amp so I can use it for something.

Some old ones I'm seeing have mic and aux inputs I think(?) the mic signal has to be boosted (?) but again I have no use for mic inputs just want the aux because when I tried connecting a tuner it "worked" but the signal was very low and hum very high. 

So I'm looking at options and don't mind spending 💰 a little bit don't want to invest in trying to make essentially scrap metal useful.

So maybe I'm discovering that signal 🚦 to noise ratio is a thing 

My latest idea is maybe putting a guitar pedal in between or preamp out from my little rage amp

At least then I will be able (perhaps) to adjust the signal 🎚� level

Main reason, it keeps the mains hum (EMF) from iron transformers out of the chassis which keeps hum interference as low as possible. A lot of pro mixing desks have outboard supply.

Ok Christmas morning I think I found my "preamp"

Works pretty good I can adjust the input on the pedal then there is an adjustment on the amp
I'm not getting much break up so I'm playing long cool woman

I used a few other pedals and while playing thought a few times I felt some tingling  but blew it off I'm 🗝� old 

Later I got a meter out hooked a mini grabber to an unwound string and black anything it read about 4v ac but when I connected the black mini grabber to an actual ground it disappeared to zero

I guess it does not have a 3-prong AC plug with chassis connected to ground pin?
