Title: Vox Cambridge 30R - Cambridgitis/replacement for optocoupler
Post by: chuckebaby on October 22, 2017, 09:04:33 AM
I bought a Vox Cambridge 30R for 5 bucks at a yard sale last weekend. Took it home and noticed low output, brownout symptoms.
The same old story with these amps. After doing a test by jumping the optocoupler. I realized what the problem was.

The real problem is, I cant find these online anywhere. So my question is, what's a suitable replacement ? or can I make on out of a led and photocell ?

This is the original part VTL5C2:

Im wondering if perhaps this one will work:

Thank you very much for the help.

IF you have a bright LED, a 5mm photocell and some heat shrink tubing, do your own, that´s what I use successfully.

That tubedepot link does not work.

This should work:
http://smallbear-electronics.mybigcommerce.com/photocoupler-xvive-vtl5c3-work-alike/

Mr Fahey, Thank you kindly sir. Ive read many of your threads on the Marshall lead 12's  :dbtu: Ive been a lurker here for many years. just finally took the plunge and joined. Hoping some of the knowledge will rub off on me  :)
I might try this idea with the photo cell and led before ordering the optoC. thanks again.
