Amplifier Discussion / Re: RG100ES Bass mod help!

I'm getting very close to having a good AFD-100 sound, but I'm still working on it.  I'll post my mods as soon as I'm satisfied with 'em.

I came up with a mod for this if anyone is interested...

Preamps and Effects / Re: RG100ES GAIN mod?

What would the result be if the values for R22 and/or C17 were tweaked?  Any idea??  Also, what if I added a cap accross R5 on the Green channel???

Preamps and Effects / RG100ES GAIN mod?
April 07, 2011, 02:19:46 PM
Does anyone know how to modify the GAIN stages for the RED and GREEN channels of my RG100ES?  Is it as simple as replacing a resistor and/or cap, and if so, which one(s) and what values?

I've included an excerpt from the schematic with this post for anyone who would care to show me what components need to be changed or added.

Thanks in advance-

So, does changing the Op Amp really change the sound of the RG100ES?  I thought the Op Amp chip was used to amplify the reverb and effects loop?  If it DOES change the sound of the amp, how does it do that? If I look at the schematic, I do not see how it has an effect on the sound of the amp...

Thanks for the reply - very helpful.  Now if I could just figure out how to get my amp to sound the way I want it to, I'd have it made.  :tu:

The bass adjustment knob doesn't really seem like it offers as much adjustment as I think it should. When I turn it to zero, there seems to be more bass remaing than most amps have.  This is what I would like to change.

Also, can anyone tell me what the signal and load value should be, and how these values are determined when using the Tone Stack program?  What does the signal represent, and what does the load represent?

Thanks!

This ToneStack program is AWESOME!!!  Can anyone tell me what the typical values should be for the signal and load, and what they represent?  Also, what are these values based on?

Thanks!

So, it sounds like you have modded your RG100ES...???  If so, what did you mod; why and what was the outcome?

Also, anyone know what the stone stack structure and values are for the new AFD100???  Anyone???

THAT'S AWESOME!  ...I just hope I can figure out how to use and interpret this awesome program.

I am using the 4x12 Randall cabs that I bought with the head back in '85.  I believe they are 100 watt Celections?

Anyway, I really don't think it's the cabs, but rather the circuitry.  The bass is way too round for me...I'd really like to tighten it up with maybe a resistor and/or cap mod.

Thanks in advance-

Amplifier Discussion / RG100ES Bass mod help!

I would like to modify the bass output of my RG100ES.  I would like to mod the bass so that it's not so round and fat, but rather tighter/more responsive.

If anyone knows how to accomplish this, please reply with detailed instructions and schematic references if at all possible.

Thanks in advance to eveyone that replies.

Thanks for the reply.  You sound like you know your way around an RG100ES.  Would you know what would happen if the value of these resistors were to be changed?

There are two .6 ohm and two .27 ohm 5 watt resistors on the board.  Are two of these for the clean channel and the other two for the gain channel?  The reason I ask is, I have been looking for a way to add more gain to the red channel, and clean-up the green channel.  I know I know...you're gonna say "The red channel already has monsterous gain, and the clean channel is already crisp and clean - why would you want to change them?".  And to answer that question before you ask it...it's just my nature; I like to tweak.

If you would happen to know how to occomplish this, your knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance-

Jay

I just replaced all four of the power transistors in my RG100ES, and would like to make sure they are biased to the correct voltage.  I know there is a trimmer pot on the PC board that is used for this purpose, but I am not sure where the voltage is taken.  I believe they should be biased to -.6volts, just not sure where to probe the board when setting this voltage.

If anyone has done this and can help me out, it would be greatly appreciated.
