Hi. Two things come to mind:
1) You won´t get "better" parts than Boss, which are *big* buyers and famous for their quality and longevity.
I know for sure they have a terrific quality control.
No, a $65 "white whale oil capacitor", made by Tibetan monks high in the Himalayas, on the exact moment of Winter Solstice, won´t make it sound any better/bluesier/heavier/"xxxxxx"er , although many claim so.
2) Soldering/desoldering, moving/pulling wires, replacing components, messing with it needlessly, will definitely *shorten* its useful life.
3) In short, if you are happy with it (I would), keep it as-is.
Great pedal, congratulations.

Yup...
The ol' if it ain't broke leave it alone would seem to apply here. I sure thank you for the
insight and expertise!
Thanks again!

So where would the benefit be by modding a MT-2 for instance?
Cleaner tone, Horsepower..? Is it just a matter of utilizing a
better component(s) for longevity? Just curious as to what
to expect out of modifying this particular stomp. It's a great
pedal as is... Might be worth the while if the end result makes
for an even "greater" pedal. Sure don't mean to make a rubiks
cube out of my curiosity. :-\
Thanks so much!

Preamps and Effects / Boss Metal Zone MT2

Have a MT2, Not the MIJ... It's the plain ol' Taiwan made stomp.
What I was curious about is, What is the reasoning for the "mod"
kits that seem to be so readily available? Is there really that much
of an gain in tone, EQ capability? Don't mean to sound like a dummy.
This one seems to do okay, Just curious as to what the mod will
do overall.
Thanks!

Amplifier Discussion / Peavey Supreme
September 13, 2009, 10:29:14 AM
Just wanted to get some other input too. I had a pretty good afternoon yesterday with my "new to me"
Peavey Supreme. I have a limited run with a couple tube amps, (Peavey Classic 30 & Peavey Classic 50/50),
So I am still novice for the most part and wise enough to get the picture where tube vs. solid state dialogue
gets silly ;) That said... I have a couple solid state amps that are in my book, Top shelf! The now Supreme...
and a Peavey XXL that has been one rock solid amp for me. These two are very similar, Yet each capable of
their own unique tonal qualities. Personally, I'd have an unbelievably hard time being convinced that either
one of these amps couldn't hold their own with any tube amp out there. .02

I realize these two specific pieces are somewhat older... But, That's actually what the draw is for me. I also
would proudly show up last night, tonight, all night and every night with either one, No tubes glowin' and put
the myth to rest. I don't know for sure, Maybe I just got super lucky with these two..?
I honestly feel like they are just plain and simple GREAT solid state amps :tu:

Preamps and Effects / PV C50/50 - Preamp project dilema
September 04, 2009, 12:39:42 AM
Hi crew,
Yup... New dude here to pick some brains, If I may.
I've started and dropped this little project a few times and figure I better get
the fool thing done or drop it for good.
What I've done,(Please see photo), is attempted to put this guitar rack, so to
speak, together and just having fits trying to figure out which way to go as far
as an preamp goes. The *ocktron *aniac preamp has a single out and the only
way I see it is to go into the left side mono of the PV c50/50. What bugs me or
has me tangled up is, The amp has 4 EL-84 tubes for each channel and a stereo
capability. I have to be honest with you for sure, I am genuinely novice here...
I really am not certain what the function of the preamp is or would be in this
rack unit involving the c50/50. How would I or better yet, Should I even be fooling
with a preamp in this mess I've got going?
Thanks for any help and suggestions!
I realize this is more a tube amp situation and I do want you to know... I am the
very proud owner of an PV XXL, PV Supreme, PV TT and an *arshall AVT50 :tu:
