alright I know it is just interferance but I was able to pick up my local AM channel 740 when I was breadboarding my LM386 project after adding a 741 chip to it. Is this normal? it is pretty cool though.

Ok, I am back

I built a 16 ohm Dummy Load (came out nice) and using my Basic Stamp Programmer made a 1khz signal and put everything on. I could only come out with 30Watts where Peavey is saying it is 50W RMS using my multi meter, dummyload, and signal using equation (22*22)/16. This is the max I could get out tweaking all of the knobs. My question is: Does this sound right, do I need to use a true signal generator or should the signal I am using work. If this does not sound right should what should I do from here? I do not have access to an oscilloscope. Here is the link to the amp specs http://www.peavey.com/assets/literature/manuals/Classic50_2005.pdf

Once again thanks for all of your help

Tubes and Hybrids / sound problems with Peavey Classic 50
November 15, 2009, 03:25:52 PM
Hi all,

I am working on a Peavey Classic 50 and it has some issues that I need help with. It plays loud and plays good but when it is idleing it makes noise that I wish it would not. I have changed all of the tubes. The orginal problem was on of the power tubes burnt out causing a trace to burn up, I replaced it and got the power back. I am having a problem with random sounds (see clips) they vary in strength the first clip and second clips were recorded 5 minutes apart. If I turn the volume up it gets louder and lis louder if I switch to the lead channel. The Classic 50 has a effects bypass which bypass the controls, If I do that it goes away.  Does this sound like a bad connection, ground, or something elese.  ***turn volume down on clip one***

Thanks,
Anthony

I am working on a Peavey Classic 50 and need to know if it is normal for a tube amp to have a speaker POP when coming in or going out of standby with the volume up to about 4? Is there a capacitor I could add to eliminate this?

Thanks,

I am working on my G100A that is doing well after changing out Q2. well I thought I would check the rest of the unit out to make sure it is working good, If someone could help me out on the Harmonic Multiplier, I am not sure what it does. I changed the photocell because the face looked bad. Turned R6 and it did not change my sound but the bulb gets brighter so I know the circuit is doing something.

2. Since I do not have an oscilloscope I have been using a signal tracer to troubleshoot and that is how I found the bad Q2, I traced out how I think the signal goes, is this correct?

3. The pre-amp is working but my question is I see the input at pin 3 but do not understand where the output gets fed back to the circuit.

See attachment

Thanks,
Anthony

I have an old g-100 A that I got working last night, and was looking at the schematics this morning and it shows an output transformer. Well I do not have one and it has the spades like they were connected directly to the speaker. can anyone help me out on this one. Is it recommended? and if so what trasnfomer do I use?

Tubes and Hybrids / power supply for a hybrid
April 21, 2009, 12:33:51 AM
I am creating an amp using the TDA7293 and have completed the main stage. I need to know since tubes require high voltage and I am running 36 vdc to the main will I have to use 2 transformers? What is the best Tube preamp schematic to use with this chip? and should I do solid stare instead of tubes on the preamp?

Thanks,
Anthony

Hello all,
Just want to know the difference in a guitar /bass/pa amp.
is it the preamp that makes them different or the main amp?
