Practicing some desoldering trying out my new toy

I like the solderpullt it seems to work good I like braid too but some times it drives me bananas

I'm kinda worried about the plastic tip on this tool melting I suppose I need to get on with it and do not tarry

The tips are teflon I believe, they are high temp but they do melt and wear out.  Replacements are available.
I've been using the solda-pullts forever, but recently bought a different brand with a high-temp silicone tip.  The difference was amazing, the flexible tip molds to the work area so you get a big boost in the amount of vacuum.
But it's just silicone tubing at the tip, so it would be possible to get some that would fit the solda-pullt.  Just needs to be high temp stuff, I think 400 deg C.

I tried to read the transistors but it's difficult as the metal clips rusted on them where the markings are
I did put a couple on the peak atlas and they are a mix of pnp and npn

Maybe a little toothpaste on a finger can clean up the rust on the transistors, toothpaste is like a cutting compound that will scrub away whatever you use it on.
If you have some cutting compound for your old cars paintwork then that will be fine as well, just rub a tiny bit with the finger tip and it might reveal what it is, rub hard and the writing will be gone as well.
I usually heat the solder up with the vacuum sucker right there ready at the solder, when the solder melts I push the Teflon tip right over the solder hole as I release the plunger.
Sometimes the solder will not work with you and you end up with a big mess, mostly you get it all up in one hit.
I sometimes have to add some new solder to the board if it really fight me, suck, solder, suck, solder, suck, swear, solder, suck and win or suck and swear and suck on a beer for a while before I retry.
I should get myself a new one since mine must be 30 years old and I can't get any tips for it anymore, I would look for a heated one if I used it a lot but I don't use mine much at all.

I just had a lot of fun doing more desoldering I wanted a voltage regulator so when I went to desolder it the solder would NOT melt  I had read stuff about people tinning their iron tip and I wondered if putting some flux on the bead would help.
I finally got some solder and flowed some on and started making progress though it seemed like reverse engineering 
I was able to desolder the little heat sink as well.
Since the voltage regulator looks like a transistor I wanted to see if I could trick my peak atlas so I hooked it up it was smart it said something like "led or diode junction" and identified the anode and cathode.

Moving on I looked for some more cool stuff left on the board so I desoldered about six or seven blue capacitors and I didn't even have to use the SoldaPullt I guess I had unwittingly prepped my tip idk but I was pulling them off like an assembly line as soon as I put the iron to the leads the solder melted.....  

I'm gonna read about this phenomenon with interest as up to this point I was like dude what does it matter if the tip is rusty you are melting stuff
