Man I was pretty stoked they threw this in at the pawn shop    it's like twenty foot long 

Unfortunately it always hummed like crazy    so I did a little testing and I didnt see any shorts etc
Also I tried flexing it along the length of the cable like maybe it had a break idk

Apparently after further review....it's not the same as instrument cable ?

If it is speaker cable then it will not be shielded so it can pick up hum very easily.
The old amps used the same plug for signal cables and power cables to the speakers, you should never swap them.
Signal cable can melt if used as speaker cable, then it can blow your amp up.
Modern Bass amps are using speakon connectors more and more as they are made to handle the high loads that modern amps can push out.

Unscrew one of the end casings and see if it's single conductor with shield (instrument cable), or 2 conductor (speaker cable).

That is shielded cable, but I can't tell if it's single conductor or 2 conductor shielded.
All that bare copper should be connected to the sleeve at both ends.

I just realized the thread title is probably taken from what is written on the cable itself, DOH!
So it is speaker cable, but seems to be a bit odd type that also has a shield.  If so it could be used as instrument cable if you connect the shield at both ends.

Thanks I watched some videos and stuff and I think I learned that shielding is different than insulation   

Sorry forgot to add that stuff that looks like copper braid is some kinda fiber or paper (insulation?)

Ok, that makes more sense, my mistake thinking it was shielding.  So you have a nice 20 ft. 16ga. speaker cable for PA usage, or you could make several 3 ft. head-to-cab spkr. cables for guitar rig usage.

Also, spkr. cable is usually more expensive than instrument cable, so someone might even trade with you.
