sorry, what i have is a small board with a TDA 7293, no preamp, just the amp, a transformer, and a small board with a relay to switch on the speaker with a three second delay, all mounted on a 8" x 8" piece of plywood and close to one another (inch apart), I noticed the input (shielded 5 inch lead wire with a 1/4" female) was sensitive to placement and would induce more or less hum when moved. I've since spread things out more and the hum did drop a fair amount. I guess my question would be is...is there a preferred transformer for these two rail amps that utilize these IC power amps that run on anywhere from 13 to 33 vac, possibly a shielded torroid?

I built a little amp and used a transformer from a phone systme, it works fine but there is some hum, is there a signifcant distance the power transformer should be from the amp, mine is one inch away, also are there transformers with grounded shielding like a metal cover?

exactly, I couldn't agree more, I have a Peavy Session 500 that I believe is good for about 300 watts and it's massive, the heatsink looks like it came off an air cooled four stroke engine and it has six or maybe even eight power transistors so I don't expect loud 100 watt volume levels out of these small packages, it's just too hard to believe they can actually do that, as you say if it's an honest 25 watts or so (which it certainly sounds like) then it's all I need. I like it a lot and I designed a speaker cut off circuit that delays a few seconds for speaker connect on power up and immediately (slightly before amp discharges and is off) speaker disconnect to avoid the "pop". I did check out the LM 3886, it comes mounted on a board with all resistors etc for around $8 on Ebay, I'm considering putting a small computer fan. I just want an amp that is linear and doesn't add or subtract from the input

I saw one of these on Ebay, already on the small board claiming up to 100 watts and for under $4 shipped, so I gave it a try, it was my first time putting something like that together but the cost was next to nothing, I used a center tap transformer that I already had that gave me about 17 volts each leg, for a preamp I'm just using a Digitech Genesis 3 which does it all, equalization, modeling (if you want it) and effects, I'm running it into a BW 1502 at 4 ohms. I am impressed! This little thing has quite some volume even with a transformer not designated for audio and on the low side as far as voltage. I'm a 66 year old guy and don't like loud volume, just here in the living room with a steel guitar so this is more than enough. Is the TDA 7293 a favorite for these little amps or is there even something better, I'm curious about class D now

I ended up buying a Crate GX30M for $30, but I don't like it, I couldn't try it and figured for $30 if I didn't like it I could easily sell it, which I'm going to list today, the recomendations of Marshall, Peavey, Fender look good, no big rush. I have two Peavey high wattage steel amps, one with discreet transistors (70's vintage) and a newer with op amps but both heavy

looking to buy a good bang for the buck 40-75 watt single 12", no effects or modeling needed, like a clean sound, light weight, small size a plus

I played through a 12" Blue Marvel this morning and it sounded good at low volume anyway, I did order a 15" neo 4 ohm yesterday for $99, i know that it's not top of the line but considering it probably won't see much volume I'll give it a shot, I have a half rack Stewart 50 watt amp and use a Genesis 3 as tone, effects, preamp. I did find a Crate GX-30m for $35 which I may try out, it has a 12" and that is as small as I will go for a speaker.

Hi, a new member, steel guitarist so lots of SS amps, mostly Peavey 200 watt range with 15" speakers, but now at 66 years old and a disability I'm looking light weight and don't need high wattage, I found this Crate 65 watter with a 12", the ad says it has a hum, does anyone have or know of a schematic for this amp, or know anything about them, it's completely new to me, thanks, glad to be on board
