Fuzzy as anything 10 watt Amp

I recently brought a 10 watt practice amp from my guitar teacher for around AUD $50. The sound is alright but when you turn it up the gain is so unbeleiveably fuzzy that I am actually thinking of making it into a noise maker stompbox.

Never tried to reverse engineer before but this has given me the inscentive to try.

If I figure it out I will post the schematic.

Is it solid state or tube?  What brand is it?

It is solid state and the only markings it has on it is GA-12. It has a 3 knob tonestack a gain and volume pot a phones output and high and low inputs.

Sorry I was so brief in my first post.

Did a quick google search and all I came up with is a stedman DI box that is a GA-12.

Well I kinda figured it wasn't it since you said it was an amp, not a DI box  :P

OK opened it up and it uses a tda2003 car radio amp chip and an other IC that im yet to identify.

If anyone wants to try and reverse engineer it tell me and I will take some photos.

I built a small bass amp using a TDA2003 kit from vellman or whatever and hated it.  NO clean headroom.
