Preamps and Effects / Re: I win! Marshall DRP1

A dollar or two cheaper. I got tired of trying to find bargains. Now all I need now is a PS PCB. When's Brian coming back to life?

Wow, thats a lot of good advice. I think it would be nice to summarize some of that and throw it in the wiki.
It is done. It's added to the LM4780 Paralleled article.

I threw the whole board away because the components might be alright but might not be. It was passing DC and was about to rip the speaker out of the cabinet. I've got another new board and chip on order so it's not too big of a deal. The bad part was hours of cleaning solder out of the 27 little holes in the PCB.

Didn't work. It was highly unstable. I threw it in the trash.  :grr :grr :grr :grr :grr :grr :grr :grr :grr :grr :grr :grr :grr :grr :grr :grr :grr :grr

Amplifier Discussion / Re: 50 watt or so bass amp
April 20, 2006, 07:21:37 AM
Well, unless we're talking about a pretty quiet drummer, 50 watts won't do it. I'd suggest ebay or a pawn shop cause you're liable to spend more making a DIY amp than you will for a used amp.

DIY is rarely cheaper than storebought anything. We build because we love to build.

There is a bright spot in all this. I found that I had another LM4780 and I cleaned up the umpteen zillion little holes so I can stick it in the old PCB. I've got another set coming so if this one will work I can build a 100+ watt per channel stereo amp with the right transformer and heatsinks. I'm going to try to solder it up and smoke test it tomorrow. Should be exciting!  :trouble

Preamps and Effects / Re: Preamp thoughts

That's a very interesting concept by Vox with inserting diodes in the FB loop of that little Busker amp. I wondering though could that somehow be implemented with an LM3886 somehow? I suppose I could try it with my perfboard LM3886 amp easily enough.

Opinions? Ka-Boom? ZZZZzzz sizzle?

Is he trying out a new layout for his LM3875 kits? I don't know why he'd need testing of the old ones.

Preamps and Effects / Another Design
April 19, 2006, 09:22:49 AM
Here's a design I pulled from DIYaudio.com that was running on 9v power. I removed the biasing network and added grounds for bipolar power. Thanks to Brion55. I may test this one myself.

I need to start snooping around for a decent enclosure. The wrapper for those things is harder for me than the amp itself for sure.

If we prepare nice reports with pictures and stuff are we gonna be on chipamp.com?

I can use connectors for the PS inputs and test different trannies if that's what he's after. I'm considering buying another 160VA toroid.

It's not a toroid but it's really a dual 18v secondary. It's a chassis mount Hammond and not noisey at all.
