Would adding a master volume to a hybrid amp, solid state preamp and 6L6 power amp do any kind of benefit besides controling over all volume?

phatt

Short answer No.

All the modern gear tends to rely heavily on preamp fuzz.
Most SS power sections don't do great OD and the same thing happens with big gutsy Valve power stages.
i.e. A big 100 watt Twin running ,,Fixed bias,, lots of Feedback has little powerstage compression. So no in these types of amps it's mostly triode fizz or diode fizz in the preamps.

If you are chasing the sweet all singing dancing soulful sound of ZZtop to BrianMay then you NEED simple cathode biased power stages with NO FB,,,, then a Master might be of some use between preamps and power stages.

Thanks Phil, I knew with a tube amp it can be a good tone shaper just wasn`t sure on a hybrid if it would do any good to add one on board or just run a separate master through the effects loop to control overall volume.
