Amplifier Discussion / Re: filter cap replacement
April 02, 2013, 06:22:30 AM
Just a little practical info on 6L6's if you want the to last you don't bias them to the datasheet's rating , if biased beyond 70% of max value you will be burning up expensive tube regularlly . 2 6L6 tubes cannot produce over 60 watts so logically 4 6L6 tubes cannot produce over 120 watts . Also if you pump over 600 volts to these tubes kiss them puppies goodbye.

P.S. on a telecaster shielded cable is your friend.

As Enzo has said , I would check for voltage , I would start with voltage on the Center Tap of the output transformer. Seldom is a amp silent , most tube amps hum (amp hum) . check all fuses , clean all jacks and pots the pull out your metter and start poking around , USE CAUTION TUBE CIRCUITS USE HIGH VOLTAGE

Impedance of a guitar ranges from 4K ohms to 24K ohms , the lower impedace of the headphone will effect the quality of tone , however it should still work.

The Legion Sound LSG100 was simular to Dime's Randall(before he had it modded).

wow it's been awhile since I have heard anyone mention one of these little amps . If memory serve's me I think it's a 10 watt amp practice amp , great tone built pretty solid and fairly easy to repair , really no need for a schematic.  :dbtu:

use a desoldering iron or desoldering pump to remove the part , do not leave iron on pad any longer than it takes to melt the solder (over heating will damage the pad on the PCB and possibly cause the traces to lift . when replacing the part , the same applies .  8)

Tube or Solid State which is better , I hear this question everyday my friend. The amp that is best is the amp you are happy with, that's all that really matters.  :dbtu:

if you have a line out(or effects loop send) go from there to a known good amp , basiclly if you have a good sound when you play your preamp isn't the problem , if you don't the preamp is the problem. check all your solder joints not only on the parts you replaced but on the entire board.

Preamps and Effects / Re: what exactly is a preamp

I have to disagree with Guitarist , Impedance is a concern , if they don't relative match you have loading problems which effect tone .

Amplifier Discussion / Re: Watts vs Volume (db)

yes bry frequency makes a world of difference the higher frequencies will ride on top of the low frequencies.
yes in theory joecool and jm this is true , but in practice it isn't , it is true that between a 100 watt and a 50 watt amp you won't hear much difference in volume. I have a Marshall JMP and a MG10 and 2 1960 cabs if ya want to come and prove your theory  :lmao:

Tubes and Hybrids / Re: Peavey Mace Question ?

Steve a lot of people like these amps just like they are
(BTW I am a Authorized tech also by Fender, Peavey, Mesa , Korg(that's Marshall and Vox) and a few others  )

Well this is just my opinion , I personally don't hear a tube tone coming from these amps , I repair tons of these every year , and the people that own them love them, I own a AVT150 myself I modded the output to a tube output(4-EL34's) it makes a good backup amp.  However, if you like the tone the that's all that really counts  :tu:

Unless the multi-tap cap is bad I wouldn't replace it , but if you really want to check Hoffmans website , or CE
