Amplifier Discussion / Randall RX75GR2
December 24, 2013, 01:44:36 PM
Bought the grandson a Marshall MG30CFX for X-Mas..and found out this morning that that is not the amp
that he wanted..Gee,What a Deal! What he wants is Randall RX75GR2..but the only place that I found them
is on line! None of the smaller music stores have one,nor GuitarCenter or SamAsh within 100 miles from me.
Have been on the phone with all of them..my head hurts. Is the Randall a good amp..or..??? Can't find a display
model..Whats a poor old guy to do??
I can return the Marshall..after x-mas..and try to get him what he wants..

I'm a old tube nut myself..know nothing about Randall Amps
Please help me with some information on that model.

Thanks.

Thanks for the info on the amps and floorboard. The grandson liked the vox,so got him that one. I realize that the Peavey Vegas 400 is designed for a steel guitar and its a clean amp..thats why I asked about the multi-effects floorboard.. he plays guitar in a garage band..not sure about their music style..just say its loud!
The Trace Elliot amp is the lower watt Tramp..w/Celestion G12-vintage 30-4ohm speaker..do not have a foot switch..I'll pick up a aftermarket brand for easy switching. The grandsons guitar teacher has a Trace Elliot Bonneville C50..says he luvs it! From what I've read and people that I have talked to, the Trace Elliot amps from 95-02 are still sought after(guitar series)not necessary the acoustic or bass that are made today. Nice voiced amp..not marshall nor vox..it holds its own.

Thank You for the information on both the amps Juan..I bought them both this morning for $185 out the door!
The Grandson likes the power of the Peavey Vegas 400 (it does pack a punch!) and I'll keep the Trace Elliot Tramp for myself...I liked the You Tube lead that you gave me about it..and my Gibson 137 sounds good through it also!
The kids got one stompbox,..which one I don't know..but thats a great idea on adding a mutli-effect pedalboard
to the Peavey amp! Which brand pedalboard do you think I should get him? I figure it a early X-Mas present with the amp..
and I got my Vox Cambridge 30 back..with no mods
Thanks. Respects.

Amplifier Discussion / Need opinions on 2 different amps
November 08, 2013, 12:09:03 AM
The Grandson dragged me to a pawn shop today, and showed me 2 amps he is interested in...I know little to nothing about either one except what info that I found on the net about them. I hope to find someone who has working knowledge on these amps, who has played through them or who has owned them in the past that will help me out in getting the better of the two for the kid!
The first is a Trace Elliot Tramp..all that I know is its make in the UK..and from what I understand has something to do with old Gibson Amps..?
The second is a Peavey Vegas 400...I hear its a keyboard or steel guitar amp..thats all I know..!
The Grandsons playing guitar in a garage type band..which is the better amp for his needs??
Any..All help on this will be useful
Respects.

Sure..it would be great to double the power out of a solid state amp by just changing out the chip!
If it sounds too good to be true..it is!

Thanks again for all your help on this screwball idea  :loco

Thanks to Juan & Enzo for both your info on the upgrade on my old vox amp. I've have never had any problems with this amp,and I bought it new in 2000 and have been using it on and off since! I have to agree with you both
that he spends too much time on the net..I really do not see any reason to make changes on something that works as well as the old Vox! Its not a powerhouse, but it does have a good voice for a solid state amp of its size! I have No plans to change anything on the amp..the Grandson came over tonight and pulled up a website pertaining to Vox-Korg Modifications..but I'm a old player, not a Tech..it sounds like a pile of ...to me,but anyway heres the site that he has been driving me nuts about...https://sites.google.com/site/voxcambridge30repair/vox---korg-cambridge-30-and-cambridge-30-twin-modifications

Thank You Both for the info and opinions on this matter..

My grandsons using using one of my guitars and my Vox Cambridge amp (his gear was stolen) until he desides what he wants to replace what he had. I bought the Vox amp new in 2000 and have never had any issues with
it...he wants me to change out the chip to get more output and to change the optocoupler..??
Is all that really necessary? Will the mods add to the amps performance or output..and if it adds more output to the amp, do I need to upgrade the LB10-1615 speaker also??
Grandson says the amp can put out more with the mods and there will be a noticeable improvment..

Is it worth the $$ for the mods..or..leave it alone?

Thanks

Can you mix speaker ohms..in speaker replacement..or do you stay with the same ohm speaker as what you removed?? Does the same apply with a external speaker??

Thanks for the feedback! Its also good to hear from some whos the same age! The Amp fits me just fine..not going out playing gigs anymore..just having fun with it at the house..and for that purpose the Lil Marshall does just fine! I never realiized how much I missed playing guitar..I'm glad that I'm playing again!

I hope to learn about SS amps here..I've been a tube nut for a long time..either Fender or Ampeg..both good brands and worked well for me ..but Always weighed a Ton! I sold off most of my equipment some time back to pay medical bills, and in November of last year discovered that I still had one old electric guitar stuck in the back of a closet that I forgot about..cleaned it off,put on new strings, lemon oiled it up..still plays good for a 25 year old guitar..only one problem..No Amp! I did not realize who much I missed playing guitar..since I found it,I play daily! The end if December the MRS. brought home a Marshall SS MG30CFX amp..seems like a good practice amp
to me..but I have heard from others thats its a poor SS amp..at best!!..?? Heck..I have not been in a music store in 20 years, and I'm out of touch with technoligy...thats why I'm here..to learn!
