Title: Frontman issues
Post by: XinTX on June 16, 2007, 10:26:36 AM
I have a Fender Frontman 15 that died.  It was a couple years old so no warranty, so I think I'll either use if for parts or try to troubleshoot.  I can't get any sound because it blows the fuse the instant I switch the power on.  I decided to disassemble it and I don't see anything burned or charred.  Any ideas on where to start looking?

This one?

I would start by checking the condition of all filter capacitors that shunt straight to ground after the rectifer diodes, then check the rectifier diodes, the mains transformer and the power amp IC.

Yep, that one.  I'll start checking on my next tinker session.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention ...There are at least three of these "Frontman 15s": The aforementioned 15G, which is sort of the "basic" model, 15R, which aside a parallel reverb circuit is exactly identical to 15G and 15B for bass, which is completely different circuit. Schematics accordingly:

No reverb.  Just a cheap-o version.  I may decide to simply use this for the power supply, speaker, and cabinet for a future project though.
