Amplifier Discussion / Re: Velleman

First off , welcome to the forum. I too have built many amps(tube and SS) , saying this bro , did you read the specs on this kit? there is no way it will produce 200 Watts, 50 Watts  is closer for guitar. I haven't built the ROG preamp , myself but they like them here and they are a solid design. However back to your power amp, I would abandon the kit idea , if you have a source for components near you I would build from a guitar or power amp schematic tons of them are avaiable , tryed and true designs are the way to go bro,

Amplifier Discussion / Re: Power Transformer replacement

Check out tubesandmore.com , I think they have 1  relatively cheap(as far as iron goes), if that's to high priced , what I used to do back when I started messing around with these things(we won't talk about how long ago that was) find a 20Watt home stereo at a garage sale or thift store , and gut the Iron out of it.

LoL-what Temmuk said, also , I have found that the IC power amps are not as durable as the old power transistor outputs.

Preamps and Effects / Re: Preamp selection woes...

I hate to disagree with Teemuk , however there are high-voltage FET's that can directly replace certain tubes(not all). However , in Instrument Amplification positive feedback has been used, I would not recommend it for DIY's , but it is used often in production amps . Back to the circuit if your wanting a Fender Champ(tube champ) tone, you will not get it with a solid state circuit, sorry bro , but there 2 different animals, but have fun trying , I have built tons of amps , modified tons more , you can get close , but no cigar. Also the output transformer in a tube amp does 2 things 1st it takes the 2 split phases of the signal and combines them on the primary side (the side of the tubes) 2nd it matchs the impedance on the secondary(the side that hooks up to the speaks) the impedance from the tube is high(around 5k ohms) speaker impeadnce is low(4-16 ohms) transistors, and opamps (generally) have a low output impedance .

LOL -not much I can add to that , but I would add the Peavey Musician 400 Series B ( about the best tone stack I have ever seen (very complicated but vary good)).

Sorry bro , it says that the file temp. unavailable.
would be great if it work though.

Thanx for the great schematic links bro  :tu:

Nice build and nice tone from a wel designed , and simple FET Preamp. It is as close to a tube tone as you really need , if it sounds good it is good.

sure it will work your getting your tone from your Zoom , all you need is a small power amp, for a power supply you can go to your local thift store/junk shop and find a external drive unit(old  computer hard drive(the older ones have a higher current rating)).

There are tons of pristinely clean tube amps(at higher volumes) however , they are also as rule your higher priced amps, I have a Ampeg V4 sitting on the bench right now that is that way at a ear splitting volume. With all that said if your playing thru a JC-120(original) there very hard to beat.

If your Champion is the 25 watt use the Vintage 30 or the greenback , otherwise I recommend the G12t-75.

Try a Jensen Mod or an Eminance Speaker, the Fentons have tons of highs slight mids and virtually no lows.
