Post by: Scoticus on February 06, 2017, 06:56:08 PM
Hello All,
Do you guys think this speaker would be worth a recone? The cone is stuck solid so maybe just junk
This, as far as I know, came out of a series I G100 yamaha
I just picked up a series II G100-115 and rediscovered this speaker in my to go pile.
thought I would just ask your opinion on the subject before I throw it away.
thanks

Stuck solid usually means the voice coil is so melty/warped, it can't move.  I can't see, but the magnet doesn't look cracked - which would be death.  Cut away the dust dome and look inside,  is the pole piece still centered?  The magnet might have sifted to one side, pinching the voice coil.  That too would be death.

Get a quote, proobably what $60?  I always liked their speakers. Yamaha makes good stuff.   On the other hand speakers are important to the tone of an amp, so you can try anything you like.  Save it until at least you find nothing else you adore.
