Brian wants me to try a few more things like experimenting with the gain and experimenting with paralleling the channels, so he is going to send me some good size resistors (along with some other components I needed for something else anyway) and I will be trying that.  Probably in the next couple weeks, but its hard to tell for sure.

Wow, this is great to see you guys work out things like this!  I'm excited to see what comes of it all.  So far no one has expressed interest in the lm3886 GB, so it looks like we are going to have to shell out a bit of cash to get some prototype boards printed up.

Cool.  Feel free to post your ideas for it up here.  I want as much input as possible.

Really?  Thats interesting.  I do think it sounds good, but I like the lm3886 better...mostly because its louder.

The lm1875 makes a really killer 20w guitar amp!  I just tried it out and wow!  It only has as much clean headroom as any other 20w amp, but its plenty for practice.  Crank it up and throw on a distortion pedal in front of it, and damn!  Very much loud!  I wasn't expecting it.  But I guess it makes sense, with the right speaker even my 15w dean markley gets pretty loud.  Anyway, it would make a sweet practice amp power chip if someone is interested.  Brian is suppose to start selling PCBs for the lm1875 soon also, so you won't have to make your own or anything.

Yeah.  I tried it with a 10AH 12v battery, then 18v AA, neither one made a huge difference, although the 18volts was louder.

Schematics and Layouts / TDA2003 practice amp

There is an easy to put together kit for this too: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=320-214

I found it to be ok with guitar, but very poor with bass.  Quite frankly I like the Little Gem better though.

Amplifier Discussion / TDA2003 bass amp

Well, my brother wanted a small bass amp, so I figured a TDA2003 circuit would work well...well, no.  It sucks actually lol.  Virtually no useable clean headroom, I would dare say the lm386 is better.  Its no looker either lol.

**edit**
I should say that it worked pretty well with guitar.  However, I like the lm386 better even though its not as loud.

Hmm.  Well, we'd want to test it before we plan too much around it.  I don't have time to perf one out right this second.  Maybe in a few weeks, but its hard to tell.  The semester is coming to an end, about a month left, so it's lots of school work for me  :grr

Hey RDV, how do you like this one:

?

I know you used it a while ago, are you still?  Does it work well?  If so, maybe we should do this one.

Also, anyone good at PCB design and/or making PCBs?  If we could do all of this "in house" we could save money and then if it kicks ass we could get some professional ones done up later.

The pot isn't technically part of the amp though...since I built it as a combo, thats just an external cab I can hook up  ;D

You'd have to ask crystallas about that...I haven't tried the upload stuff.  If I remember right he has it shut off.

I was going by what someone suggested to me.  Good to see some ideas, lets see some more!  I'd love to see this thing actually happen.  Brian told me he would do the design and get 5 boards printed for $100, or if we can get 10 people to do the lm3886 group buy he will do it for free!

Ok, so we are going to base this thing off from the K-20X preamp because its simple and has great tone.  But, we are going to ditch the OD for simplicity's sake, plus then people can add their own OD later, and we are going to add a buffer to the front.  Anyone want to throw up a quick schematic of their best idea for it?  If we get this thing looking good, we can get some PCBs printed up with ssguitar.com on them and sell them for cheap.
